What are the safest cars on the road, anyone know?

Original post by KarenB

I am looking for a new car, or a used car. What is most important is safety feautures and safety ratings.

I would love your opinons.

Thanks so much.

I agree with Merscedes being very safe.

I also would have to say that Subarus are very safe and also excellent cars. My aunt will only buy Subaru..She has been in a few accidents...and some of them were really bad...She has walked out of all of them unharmed...One time her and her husband were driving home from their house in the berkshires, and in a terrible rain storm they lost control of the car, and slid off the road upside down into a ditch...The car was totalled, but they were fine...with the exception of a few cuts and bruises.

As for the Hyundai Santa Fe....I would say that it is a really good truck, and it has an excellent warranty...It is inexpensive to buy and maintain also. My friend Danielle has one. She bought it in 2001 and she loves it. She has never had any problems with it, at least none that I know of

If your in the market, I have a hookup at South Shore Honda in Valley Stream. FM me if you like, and maybe I can get you a price on something.

Thank you all so much. Mercedes is pretty $$$$ do you think it would still be very safe if I bought a used one? Or used of the other very safe models mentioned. Maybe a 1998.

Thanks again.

Yes all of the mercedes are safe....Not very sure about the 2 seater though....Make sure you have the car checked out before you buy it, check how much the insurance is going to be, and just so you know fixing a benz is expensive, even an oil change is crazy.

We have the Mercedez ML500 (the truck) and I love driving it. I feel so safe in it. It is expensive but as long as you bring it to the dealer for oil changes and maintenance that is included in the price so you dont have pay for them. Of course double check when you go to the dealers, but it really is a great truck

We actually drive a Volvo S60 and I feel so safe in it. Even safer than when I drove a truck. I always felt so top heavy in the trucjk and worried about flipping or spinning out. The Volve is also really great in the snow. We have AWD (all wheel drive) all the time so it can really plow through anything.

An used Mercedes is fine.

I'd just like to add I don't put much faith in those Highway Testing Scores or the Insurance Institute scores. I was an Auto Claim person too long to believe them. I trust the Insurance score a little better but still the stuff that happens in the real world is so very very different from what happens in a real accident.

I believe the idea was there are 4 collisions in an accident. Your car and other object. Your internal organs and your body, Your body and the vehicle. Your vehicles random items within the cavity of the vehicle.

Although I've never been hit by a hairbrush sitting in my back seat, I have handled claims where heavy metal objects ranging from a Club to a hydrogen tank flew from the into or through the windshield. Only one of those that I personally handle hit the person.

July2004Bride What year Santa Fe do you have? I have a stupid question, does you stereo have a light at nite so you can see to change the stations? After 2 years I just noticed that I don't have one and they said they would have to send it back to the company to see if it could be fixed but they are not sure if it should have a light....weird!
