For pots I'd say All-Clad or Calphalon and for knives Henkels or Wusthof. Go check out Williams Sonoma if you want professional grade cooking items. They have all of the above.

I have henkels- but I have to say I prefer my sabatier... it's a little heavier but the balance is PERFECT... you just need ONE great chef's nice to cook.

I would say Calphalon or All-Clad for pots and we recently got Global knives and they were amazing! The Global knives are more exclusively distributed so you may not find them everywhere. We got our at Bed Bath & Beyond in Manhattan.

Re: What are the top POTS & Cuttlery...
I cook a lot- I have to say my favorite and on my top must-have list for any kitchen is a cast iron pan... they are cheap and they kick as*!! You can take them from the top of the stove to the oven which is great...
I wasn't able to get the complete all-clad set (which I love)... I use faberware (yeah Jenn they rock).. but I also have a few All Clad pieces that I got on sale (like a great pan for the oven, etc)..
Another must have is a le cruset stew pot- they are enameled cast iron... great for cooking something all day (like Sunday Gravy or something like that).

We have a 10 pc set by Calphon as it's rated #1 by Consumer Reports. Check out Consumer Reports when purchasing major appliances, etc. very helpful.

Calphalon Professional and Global knives for SURE!! Henckels are really good too, that's what I got for my shower. I would have registered for Global, though, if they were available at Fortunoffs...
The kitchen is my favorite room in the house!

I cook a lot and did a lot of research through Consumer Reports and other sources and I think that Henkels and Caphalon are the best! I use my pots all of the time - they heat evenly, they're non-stick, they're easy to clean, etc.

Re: What are the top POTS & Cuttlery...
Watch out for Faberware. My mom had them for years and loved them. Now they are not made by the same company, but they kept the same name. My mom bought me two sets of Faberware pots when we first moved in a little over a year ago. In that time three of my pots have completely cracked down the side. One while I was draining pasta. That hurt!!!

Re: What are the top POTS & Cuttlery...
i agree about the faberware set, the handles are always coming loose too...not good if you have boiling water in a pot and a handle comes off. OUCH! i registered for circulon, it was rated well on consumerreports.og and it is not too heavy.
