So I am going to visit my mil in Virginia that weekend and I can't decide what we should give her. Fh says -'give her a shirt.' No way! She's a really plain lady in terms of fashion. I always give her gift certificates to Barnes and Nobles ( fh suggestion). No more. :) His parents own restaurants so they are so used to fruit baskets and wine, etc...

she absolutely loves me but we are so far apart we only see each other once a month or once every two months for a weekend at a time.

i just emailed fh about this he said his mom will let the spa gift certificate expire. he said we'll give her a book and flowers (boring..) argh... what's a gil to do??

I would say he probably knows her best, does she have any hobbies? I would stick with his suggestion.

Over the years, I've bought his parents excellent restaurant GCs, broadway show tickets, etc. THEY'VE ALL GONE TO WASTE. They don't go.
So the GC to B&N and flowers sounds good to me!

I'd also list to FH. Bring her a really pretty arrangement of flowers and a GC to Barnes and Noble. If that's what she likes, then she'll be really happy with that! Maybe you could get her a really fancy bookmark to put in the envelope with the gift card. They have really pretty ones!

Well I am not much help I am getting my MIL admitted to an institution. DH agrees so we are all on the same page. I would say that every woman loves flowers. Or girft certificate to a nursery. Does she like to plant?
