I'm having problems with my BP and what to do about their hair costs.
We have to start getting ready at about 5 am and we have a tight schedule. The girls might stay with me in my hotel suite the night before for a sleepover and to make sure that everyone is on time. (esp if there's snow!) Te only problem is the BP are mainly Queens/Brooklyn girls and they aren't used to paying 60-70 for updos. I want to cover some of their costs, and wanted to cover their makeup esp bc some are non-makeup wearing people but FH and I want to keep costs down. I was thinking of asking for 60 from them and to have them cover their tips and I cover the rest for hair and makeup...
What are you covering for your BP and how much, if anything are they paying? What about girls with large BP- 8 people or so- like mine?

I offered to cover half for whatever they choose, whether it be hair, makeup or both, but that is ONLY if they are using my people. If they are using their own people, then it's on their own dime and I will get them something else.

I think that is something that they should take care of on their own. It is nice of you to offer to pay and if you can afford it great. I have either already been in my friend's weddings or will be in the future so we all will have a turn to pay money to be in a bridal party. I think when you agree to be in wedding, you have to agree to the costs. I'm just going to try to pick an affordable dress for them but as far as hair & make up go.. that is up to them. I've only been in 2 weddings so far & i'm in another next yr and I've paid for everything myself.

If it wasn't a time issue I'd agree that they should cover this at their salon of choice. With the early start time tho they seem to be torn with going to my place and their own...I just wanted to cover their price increase bc it's not their fault that I need them ready that early!! When I am in their Bp the costs will be lower bc they will either have evening weddings of using people in Astoria or Brooklyn...sigh...

I think they should pay for everything themselves. I think it's usually a given if you accept being in the bridal party that there will be expenses you will be responsible for. If they can't afford it and you realize that when you ask them, then that's another story. But, a wedding is an exceptional occasion to spend a little more on hair and makeup than usual.

I am not paying for anything, as much as I would love to, I just can't afford it. It is up to them whether or not they want to do hair and makeup professionally, or on their own.

I'm covering that stuff for my bp (hair, makeup, dresses) too, but we're not getting them separate gifts so i think it evens out. if i left it up to them, some of them would not have their hair and/or makeup done, and i think that would look awkward in the pics.

I also got them gifts- but that is b/c my Dad is also paying for the hair and make-up

I have decided to defray some of the costs of my girls hair by paying 35 bucks towards their hair. They would be left to pay 50 each, which I think is reasonable. If they want their makeup done, they will pay for that themselves

I didn't pay for their hair or make-up, but I let them decide whether or not they wanted to get their make-up professionally done. We all stayed in a hotel the night before and the hair and make-up people came to the hotel at 6am. I spent a lot of money on their gifts and I'd rather get them a nice gift that they can use than pay for their hair.

I understand your dilemna, I'll have about 8 bm's, and there are 1 or 2 that would probably go natural if I didn't specify a hair or makeup style. I will tell those girls in particular to be at my house at a certain time to get themselves done and I'll probably foot the bill for them only. My other bm's won't care b/c they prefer their own people anyway.

I think this is what I'll do and cover the tips too. Makeup being optional is fine.
I was going to cover the dresses but my BP all told me that was crazy! Turns out I cound't have afforded that anyway otherwise I'd pay for everything else. Their dresses are about 135 so even with alterations it won't be too bad.
If the hair costs get too high, or if I cover makup I'll reduce their gift cost but I'll still get them a little something.

I am not making my BMs get their hair or makeup done. If they choose to, they can use whomever they like or they can use the people coming to the hotel that morning.
If I was asking them to get it done, I would pay for it.
I also think when you ask someone to be in your BP they know the financial responsibility that comes with it.

I covered the hair and gave them BP gifts. They paid for the dresses and if they wanted makup.

It's up to them if they want to have their hair/MU professionally done so if they choose so they'll have to pay for it themselves. I'd love to take care of this for them but there's no way we could afford it.

I'm leaving hair and makeup as optional - so if they want to get either done that is fine, but they have to foot the bill. If I was requiring one or the other, I would pay.
