I don't believe in an after life

I don't exactly believe there is an afterlife but there's something extremely comforting for me that when you die you are not alone for eternity.

Love this question.
I was a philosophy major and studied way too much Sartre and Kirkegaard
A few years ago, I would have said no. But there is so much in this world that defies logic and reasoning so who really knows?
I guess it some way you want to believe it...

I know where my soul will be when I die, yes I do believe in the afterlife.

I agree. Neither is mine. But I think it is a definite argument for belief in organized religion.

On this topic, I just finished the book The Lovely Bones...I thouht it was so interesting how she wrote about the afterlife...

See, I HATED that book! I would rather have 'lights out' than have the afterlife be like that. I can't think of anything else more horribly sad. I think I'm one of the few people who didn't like the book. Bad story, stupid idea of the afterlife, I thought. It was almost too 'literal' in a sense... looking down on your family, like you were floating on a cloud or something. Didn't like it.

Heaven is supposed to be a place where there is no time, or at least no conscious SENSE of time. Nirvana, Enlightenment, Heaven... all seem very similar to me. You have to work hard in life to get there.

Honestly, I did not like the ideal of 'heaven' that the author created either...but what I found interesting is the fact that she would imagine a heaven where each person creates their own reality-but you are then alone in that reality. I found that really sad, since the whole point of 'heaven' is to be surrounded by love (at least that is what I thought). It is such a unique perspective though, I would never think to imagine an afterlife where you are alone. Whats the point in that?

I don’t believe that my life has no meaning, but I have been thinking about this topic a lot lately. And I’ve been feeling like if there is nothing more to life but what we have here on earth, what is really the “point”?

I was not raised to believe in an afterlife, and I am struggling with this idea now because it goes so against what I was raised to believe. But I think that being able to believe in some kind of afterlife would make life on earth make more sense… I don’t know, it’s hard to explain my feelings about this topic.

To make your time on earth spectacular...to help people...to love...to find beauty.

I don't believe in Heaven and Hell, it's just something that the church came up with to control people and therefore, the State! Also, it provides a very twisted view on life.

See that I don't believe b/c you have a choice. You can choose to believe and live your life however you see fit and you do not have to be a part of any religion, free will.

Everything you are feeling is normal
Sartre wrote a book called Nausea

from amazon.com: 'Highly recommended if you want to learn and get a feel of the main ideas of existentialism.
By the way, as to the question of 'If existence is meaningless, why not just kill yourself?' Well, why do people climb mountains if they are just going to come back down? Some people create their own personal purpose and give meaning to their lives through some medium.'

Also Camus wrote a book called The Myth of Sisyphus which is also really good.

For the record I hated The Lovely Bones, It took me forever to finish this book. Such a warped sense of heaven.

Hrmmm...

I believe when Im dead I am gone. If faith and religion are true (cause it's only a theory) then great, if not.. oh well.

100 years from now no one will care about who I was or what I did. If I disagree, then I can write a journal. Otherwise, why should I care, Im dead?

Is there life after death, only within the memories of those who care about me. Oddly enough, I do believe in 'life force' to the point that extreme negativity can withstand death and so can extreme good 'vibes'. I think you can believe what ever you want and make it true. So if you feel grandma is looking out for you than prehaps she is.

Personally I don't want my body when I'm done with it. Other people can use the parts and pieces when Im done.

I have no intentions of haunting people. I hope to have people who I've touched in life care enough about me when Im gone to remember me fondly. That is my afterlife.

.....

If there is a spiritual afterlife, then it would really mess with my idea of God. It would prove to me that he really does have a sick sense of humor and is a cruel and mean *******. I'd be very upset if I had to meet up with 'him'. I don't mine having faith in him but if I died don't you think i've done enough? Can't I just have peace?

ETA:
This is why I think those people to talk to the dead are cruel. If I was dead and there is an afterlife of limbo, heaven or hell, then I REALLY hope some relative of mine isn't so stupid as to think I really wanna be called back to answer questions. JMHO (sorry to offend anyone)

One person's theory is another person's faith! To me, my Christian beliefs are fact (notice I said MY beliefs, which are not to be generalized with ALL Christian beliefs).

God gave us all free will. We can choose to live life according to His will, by praying for guidance, or we can choose to do whatever the f&ck we want. Both are perfectly acceptable, but only one will get you to Heaven Right, Shamma???

I believe in Heaven, I believe that after I leave this joint, one will be hanging with wings and chilling out reflecting on their life

In MY belief, yes this is what I believe, you have free will and yes in the end if you follow the will of God your reward will be in heaven. You can choose to do otherwise and believe otherwise, that is why its called free will.

I think it will be like in the movie Chances Are. You sort of get up to heaven, get a shot to forget your past life then your sole is 'recycled' into someone else.
