What Broadway play would you recommend seeing?

Original post by tray831

My brother and SIL bought me and my FH 2--$100 gift certificates from Ticketmaster---and since they're from last X-mas, I would like to use them up soon.

We wanted to see the Producers but only Ticketron is selling them, not Tickemaster--which I had no clue there was a difference.

Any ideas??

OH Ive seen already Blue Man Group and Stomp---thats about it! LOL

I didn't like Phantom at all ... I LOVE the music but the storyline not so much.

I'm going to see Wicked on Oct 2nd so I'll let you know how good it is. It's supposed to be phenominal!
How about 42nd Street?
Also, Avenue Q is supposed to be hysterical

You could always use it for a concert, anythong good coming up?

Avenue Q--is that w/ the puppets????

Yes Puppets!

Here's the Link to the Show
AVENUE Q

AVENUE Q is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is Avenue Q; still, the neighbors seem nice. There's Brian the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fianceé Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod -- a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. And would you believe the building's superintendent is Gary Coleman?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.) Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

Who is AVENUE Q appropriate for?

Adults love AVENUE Q, but they seem a little, er, fuzzy on whether it's appropriate for kids. We'll try to clear that up. AVENUE Q is great for teenagers because it's about real life. It may not be appropriate for young children because AVENUE Q addresses issues like sex, drinking, and surfing the web for porn. It's hard to say what exact age is right to see AVENUE Q - parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their children. But we promise you this - if you DO bring your teenagers to AVENUE Q, they'll think you're really cool.

Do you think a guy would find it funny? LOL

Or would it be more of a girls kind of show?

Both my father and my brother loved it.

It's basically about relationships from when you are a teenager until you are married for 50 years ... it's about all the mishaps and misunderstanding couples go through ... dating, wedding, babies, teenagers, retirement .... it's very funny.

I think Timmy might like it ... it's especially appropriate with your wedding less than a year away.

Wicked is awesome. FH went with me twice and he usually hates musicals.

Rent is another favorite of mine - it's more rock and roll.

Re: What Broadway play would you recommend seeing?

I second love, perfect change. it'll only use up 1 of your GC's, so you can see ANOTHER OB play also!

On boradyway, I've heard great things about Wicked. Chicago is great. Is Cabaret still open? Cabaret is fantastic. I've seen RENT about 4 times and it's GREAT, but it really depends on the cast. When they have celebrity casts...eww. RENT is a good one to use your GC's on because tickets like, NEVER go on sale (The only think with rent is it's not for the homophobic...I've seen people walk out....and it's not only sickening to see that, but it's like 'what did you expect?'). Chicago and Cabaret and L,P,C go on sale quite frequently. ALW is hit for miss for me as well, so I can't really recommend Phantom.

I think you should see L,P,C and another OB show, Something less well known, etc. They actually tend to be a lot better and more creative. there are so many great shows out there right now. Look around on ticketmaster and read descriptions.
