what can I do????

what can I do????

I got my dress at David's Bridal and went for my first fitting today. I have only had wonderful experiences with David's Bridal until today. The shoes that I bought were 1&1/2 inches, nothing too high b/c I'm 5'8'. Well today when I put my dress on with the shoes my dress was about 2 or so inches off the floor. Nobody told me when I first tried on the dress to put shoes on with it or that it can be ordered with an extra 4-inches in length for taller girls. I can't even wear a shoe with 1/2 inch heel--I basically have to be bare foot. The asst. manager told me that it would take 4 months for the longer length dress to come in and my wedding is in 7 weeks. Every flat shoe or slipper that I have seen is absolutely hideous. Maybe I should have been aware of this when I first started shopping, but with all the excitement of finding the right dress I feel the saleslady should have brought it up, after all she is the professional. I'm soooooo upset and have been crying for the past two hours. All I keep thinking about is not being able to have the picture with my shoes and bouquet and having to wear some hideous flat. I'm not typically into wearing heels, but for the wedding day it is so important to me and will really make me feel like a princess. I'll be all dressed up and wearing ugly shoes. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if I wasn't such a detail-oriented person, but I just want to wear heels--is that too much to ask? Does anybody have any suggestions for me--I just don't want to cry anymore.

i'm so sorry!! i'm not sure if you read, but i went for my first fitting yesterday and my dress cannot be altered in length. i got it at david's bridal and they did not tell me this. i hate them, i truly do. but that's besides the point because we have to deal with the matter at hand. if you look in my albums, i have a picture of my shoes... they are only about 1/2inch heel but so pretty and i love them. maybe that will make a difference with your dress?
i wish you the best of luck and here are some more for you!!

I was going to suggest ballet slippers. You can get swarofsky crystals and decorate them yourself. You can put the names and date, just married, a couple of hearts. Be craftsy. Hope this was helpful. I think what they did to you and the other girl totally $ucks and they should have told you about it. Maybe you should put a beware post up for other brides and let them know about the extra length.

I would definitely say go with ballet slippers. I am 5'10' and I bought a second pair of shoes (ballet slippers) for the reception because I wanted to be more comfy. I love the idea of decorating them. I may need to do that too!!!!

My friend got married last year and wore those chinese slippers in white. They're pretty and worked great with her dress.

WRONG WRONG WRONG OF DB NOT TO ASK YOU WHAT SHOES YOU'D BE WEARING WHEN THEY MEASURED YOU!!! They are the professionals, they should have asked you about the shoes!!! I am so sorry!

Please don't cry , don't most brides kick off their shoes at the reception and change to flats/ballet slippers anyway??

My suggestion is to call Phyllis at Bridal Elegance, I hear she is a seamstress beyond compare, and not expensive!! If you tell her the dress designer and style #, maybe she can work some magic, either at the waist or at the bottom.
(She is closed on Mondays).

Good luck and let us know what happens!

I am so sorry to hear about your dress.

Maybe you can try a different slip. A less poofy one will most likely make the dress lower to the ground. I got a poofier one so that I wouldn't need it taken up. HTH. Good luck.

i was just thinking the same thing! what kind of a seamstress or dress professional doesnt ask you what kind of shoes you are wearing when you are getting measured!?!?!?!? i hate David's bridal because they have awful customer service! did you speak to the manager of the store? what was their excuse for such sloppy work??? if you havent spoken to mgmt yet, go up to the counter and scream! throw a fit, rant, get loud! other brides will hear you and trust me, they dont want 20 unhappy brides ganging up on them.

I'm sorry. I would check out Love my shoes to see if they have flats. But YES-David's Bridal should have had you try on the dress with shoes. Every place I went to had me try on dresses with shoes. Idiots!
