What can I expect....

In May I will TTC and I'd like to know what I can expect to feel or experience the first few months or weeks I am pregnant. I have a great book here before I start to read it, I'd like to hear from you ladies.
Also when is it you can't fly, the 2nd trimester? Thanks so much!

Re: What can I expect....

How you can expect to feel is a difficult thing to speculate about b/c every woman is different, and therefore your experience could be completely opposite of anything that I experienced.
But, you can at least have the benefit of getting all sorts of feedback here, and then you'll have a range of things to ponder about as you read. BTW, what are you reading? I've got plenty of recommendations, if you're interested...just lemme know.

Personally, I did not know that I was pregnant until I was 8 weeks PG. My cycle was about 1.5 weeks late, and I didn't really freak about it b/c it hadn't been too consistent in prior months.

I remember feeling distracted, disoriented at times (only slightly...mostly like I could not concentrate on anything). My boobs were extremely sensitive and sore, and I was at a *heightened* emotional state...this was all b/c of hormone levels. I would cry at the drop of a hat. At about 7 weeks, I started to experience nausea mostly when I was hungry or when my stomach was empty and silly me - I didn't think anything of it!

Looking back, I remember my clothes getting tight almost immediately - like by the time I was 4-5 weeks. (Again, I had to piece all this together after I found out I was really PG.) Once I knew for sure, I actually felt alot better b/c I could deal w/it better.

In the first 3 months, I was extremely tired all the time, and I had a lot of gas (very unpleasant!) I had trouble sleeping b/c I had to get up to pee about 5-6 times at night.

By the second tri, everything was getting better. They call it the 'honeymoon' phase b/c you are glowing w/happiness and feeling better. Morning sickness is usually gone, but I also had a friend who was sick her ENTIRE pregnancy, so you never know!

Oh, and regarding flying - there are alot of myths about this. Speak to your OB about this, and he/she will tell you what to do based on your pregnancy and your own physical well-being. Believe it or not, many doctors today don't 'ground' you until your last month of pregnancy....it's actually the airlines that don't want PG women on the planes b/c they are a liability (ie, giving birth in the air). Other considerations are whether you are a high-risk pregnancy (pre-term labor, preclampsia, etc.) or if you've had problems with water retention or gestational diabetes. But, if everythings progressing typically and your pregnancy is considered normal, there's no reason you can't fly. You just have to get up during the flight and wobble around so that your circulation remains consistent.

I could go on and on...feel free to FM me...I'd be happy to bore you with more of my useless knowledge on pregnancy. It's not as 'horrible' as it sounds...I actually enjoyed my pregnancy...except for the heartburn!! LOL!
