For a bride with pale/ olive skin tone and dark (almost black) hair and eyes, do you think a white or ivory dress would be better? Any thoughts??

I'd go with ivory.
With olive skin, white might be too stark or bright and ivory will be neutral.

i think it depends more on the fabric of the dress....i thought the sample i was trying on was white - but it was really ivory.....so i ordered it in ivory because i liked the way the fabric looked......i've seen other ivory samples by different designers and they looked darker - ive also seen white samples that looked really stark like white out and made the fabric look cheap.....i picked the color that i thought would make the dress look the most expensive and elegant.....i always said i wanted a super white dress but after seeing fabrics and dresses i decided i liked my particular dress in ivory.....i just hope everyone else thinks its white just like i did not that it matters - but i dont want it to look yellow

honestly u have to go & try them on. I was so set on a white dress, but when i tried them on - the ivory just looked so much richer with my skin-tone as opposed to stark white...my dress style did as well. Some lines however, have 'diamond white' which is also nice, and there are some who's ivories aren't as nice as others(yellow looking)..so my advice is to go try them on this was my dress in ivory....nobody could really tell it was considered 'ivory' unless i said something or was standing next to somethink super white. very subtle - but very rich looking.....some dresses just look better in certain colors & on certain skin tones - not ONE shop even carried this dress in white because the staff said 'it just looks better in ivory'...anyways, good luck!

I also think it depends-- but imho I truly love white-- and some people get other colors so they wont look washed out or preference-- but if you are not white white-- then a white gown would be my recommendation

you can try ivory or diamond white, which is an off white color.

I agree about going in to the dress shopping with an open mind, and be willing to try both on. I think you will automatically know as soon as you've seen yourself in both colors.
I'm another one who just looked better in ivory than in white. I looked so washed out in white!

Mine is diamond white, and I am the same coloring as you. It looks very white to me! The sample I tried on was diamond white, and Ioved the way it looked and would have thought it was white if the sales person didn't tell me otherwise. Its funny because I always thought I wanted a 'white, white dress', but I really couldn't tell the difference. The sales person said there was a reason why the sample of my particular dress was diamond white and not white, that the manufacturer sends the color they think the dress looks better in. Wow, a lot of rambling to basically say -- try them on and see what you like, and don't worry about what the label says! Kind of the same thing as ignoring the size tag in a dress, and going with what fits!

I would definitely say ivory, if you go with white white it will wash you out.
My SIL has pale/olive skin and dark brown hair and she wore ivory
ETA:I would try both on, it may change depending on what you consider pale

Based on your description, it sounds like ivory would be more suited to your skin tone. But I agree with the previous posters that different colors may vary between fabrics and designers. The best way is to go and try various colors and dresses on.

I am very tan with dark hair and dark eyes. I tried on a lots of white dresses (diff fabrics and style) but didn't look good on me (JMO) so I decided to wear champagne color instead.

im very pale, and the ivory and champagne colors always look better on me. white always washes me out, until i have a deep tan
Definitely try both on. In the end it's a matter of personal preference - and what looks best on you! I personally went with an ivory dress - I look sickly in white.

I like ivory or champagne but that's because I am SOOOO white. Also, in my opinion- ivory or champagne makes the fabric richer.
