I think black is fine if thats what you are worried about. They may feel more comfortable in that color for a special occasion or love the dress and its the only color they had it in.

bridesmaids - apple
MOB - Black
FMIL - dark lavender/purple
dads - black vests w/ gold ties
we have fall colors, so everything goes together pretty well.
i don't know it I'd do black for both FMIL & FGIL.....

Is your FH wearing black? They'll be in more pics with/near him than anyone else. My mom and dad coordinated with each other, not anyone else. I didn't even ask my MIL what she was wearing, let alone FIL.

My Mom is wearing pink & Fmil is wearing Navy. My Step mom is wearing champagne (not to happy on that) but I guess my dress is white.
