It depends on what is more important to you - you can find a 2 carat ring for $5K but the color and clarity is not going to be great. By the same token, the very best cut and clarity will cost a lot even for a small stone.

Re: What did everyone chose for ?

RichsBride - My fi bought my ring in the diamond district and spent over 10k. The center stone is a lil over 1.5ct and the trillions on the sides are .72 each. It would've been more, but my fi's mom is a diamond inspector over in the district. I hope this helps a lil'. I'm sure you can get a 2ct. center for the price range you are looking for but I definitely think that quality will be less. If you go on www.adiamondisforever.com they have a page that talks about the 4 C's when buying a diamond. Good Luck! Let us know what happens.

Blushing-I agree but when you're not concerned with all four C's 5k in white gold is about right in the diamond district. There is something for everyone when it comes to diamonds.

Wish,
My stone is just under 1.5, we found that getting great quality at that size was just as expensive as going a little bigger due to demand & proper table proportions in round stones. My ring came from the city in was in the same price range as yours. The Debeers site is a great tool. I think shopping for certified diamonds makes a difference as well.

Congrats to you!!!!

how big is it?

Re: What did everyone chose for ?

Funny that you said you heard oval can be cheaper. Cheaper than what? Round diamonds give you the best ban for the buck since they are the most common- but I would not say cheaper by any means.
I have an oval and that is the center stone I have wanted since I was young. I also have a platium ring. I didn't pick out the ring or actual stone. Scott had an idea of what I wanted, and knew I wanted a good quality diamond over a large size diamond.
A 4ct ring for 11K- where did he buy that? I have never heard of such a large ring for that price. I know many girls who have 1ct rings for that price.

Center stone is princess cut, and the setting is white gold. It is absolutely gorgeous - but I may be a bit biased...

He got it in St. Thomas when we were there in Nov 2000..

I don't know if he got a good diamond or not.. I was shocked I even got it.. I never got it apriased (sp)either.. I NEVER wear it.. I don't like it and its not for me.. It was an impulsive buy.

Re: What did everyone chose for ?

mine is a radiant cut, which i love, although i secretly wanted an emerald cut...it's shaped rectangular like an emerald cut, but it is faceted like a round/princess diamond so it sparkles more than the emerald...(im not sure of the terminaology)....anyway, it has a baguette and small round stone on each side and is set in platinum...

Re: What did everyone chose for ?

Mine is a VERY old stone that belonged to my great grandmother. The cut is called Old European (it's round, but not as round as they cut them now) with a trillion on each side set in white gold. I love it! When I had it appraised I was told that there was no way it could have been cut after 1920, that's how old it is.

mine is almost flawless.
My center stone is 1.5 round, set in a tiffany platinum setting with a baguette on either side.

never $5k for a 2 carat unless its not good quality & color!!

i could buy a new car with the cost of mine, good diamonds are just so expensive

Theresa,
When you gonna' go looking?

Are you leaning towards any particular cut or design?

Re: What did everyone chose for ?

I have a Royal Asscher center stone in a platinum setting.

Actually, round brilliants are the MOST EXPENSIVE in terms of pricing. And if you go with a branded round (Eight Star, Hearts of Fire etc.) even more so.

If you want a lot of bang for your buck, the cheapest $ per carat weight and along various levels of cut/color/clarity is the emerald cut.
