White gold looks very similar to platinum. Actually, people often make that mistake when they see my e-ring. I just think that white gold looks warm, where platinum looks cold - I'm sure most people would think I'm nuts!
There's also a difference in how the metals wear over time, but I don't remember now what the difference is...
I think I am the only person here who has an oval center stone...I absolutely love it!! (in platinum)
My wedding band is 5 round stones in platinum...loving that too...

My center stone is also princess cut and it is set in platinum.
Platinum is a stronger metal and lasts longer.

Platinum is alot heavier then white gold.
My ring is different (I think I'm the only one with a yellow gold ring) My center stone is an emerald cut Emerald w/ a round diamond on each side. I always wanted an emerald so what better way to get one!

This is what my ring looks like. I designed it at adiamondisforever.com and emailed it to hubby, we then took it to the jewler for him to make it.
RichsBride mine looks just like yours only I have saphires on the sides.

Princess Cut center stone, platinum, 2 side baguettes.
FI picked it himself (although he knew I didn't want round!). It was cute because he worked so hard to find a perfect square because I always said I like square! Perfect squares are almost impossible to find!

the prices can range so much based on quality, color ect. Also if you know someone in the business you pay much less because of the markup factor. I think that's a question that will have misleading answers. You can use the 2 month salary guideline, that's the industry standard. Apples-I love sapphires too! I though about getting a sapphire band. I would up getting plain platinum for now. We will have something made when we get home.

I have a 4k pear ring WHICH I HATE... He bought it on impluse and its Just not for me.. I think he paid 11k for it..
We want to either trade it in and have a new ring made JUST what I like and will wear forever....
I am just curious on COST..
I know some people in The DIAMOND DISTRICT... And JEN BABY ( who is the BEST might I add)
also gave me a name..
I was just asking bc I wasn't sure of a price..
If I am not looking to SELL the ring once I love it I guess I am not so concerend on quality and color.

We looked together, I originally thought I'd get an estate setting but that turned out to be difficult. We were referred to our jeweler & we told him that I have a love for vintage & antique things, after we selected the center stone he suggested this setting. It has since become popular as the 'three stone ring'. Like you said because I'll wear it forever Rich wanted me to 'pick' it. I'm sure you can get something beautiful in the 2 carat range for 5k in the diamond district. There are so many factors though, use a jeweler you have a recommondation for. Also think about what you band will look like-I had a hard time with that. Make sure you post a pic when you get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck

Mine is an emerald cut center stone with a tapered baguette on each side set in platinum. I know your really not concerned with the color and clarity but I think you should really reconsider on the color aspect. It makes a big difference. You don't want to spend a lot of money on a diamond that looks yellow. Just a thought.

Yes, clarity is very important too. $5K for a 2 carat diamond?? The ones that I looked at were around $20K for a 2 carat. It really depends on the quality. My head was spinning when we looked at rings. They all began to look the same.
