Here is my ring (although not quite as massive):
I didn't choose it though - my FH did and he could not have picked a more perfect ring for me.

Mine (YAY!!!) is a beautiful marquise set in platinum with 2 baguettes and a princess cut on each side !! Tonight I'm going to post a pic.

Round stone set in platinum. I really loved the emerald cut, but when I put it on my hand it looked sooo silly. The round cut which I never thought I'd like, looked the best on me.

I have a round center stone with 4 smaller round stones on either side. I chose white gold because I think it's a warmer metal than platnum. Personal preference - I have a lot of white gold jewelry.
FH was very happy when he found out how much less white gold costs

Princess cut set in platnium with 5 small princess cut diamonds on either side of the stone. And then I am getting the matching wedding band. I love it!
Platinum is just a sturdier metal, and IMO, if you have a lot of diamonds, may hold it a little better.
Other than that, looks pretty much the same. For my necklaces, earrings, etc. . . I wouldn't spend the extra for platinum, but for my e-ring and wedding band, I wanted to make sure it stands the test of time and doesn't thin out after many years of wear.
I think it's another subject that boils down to personal preference.

White gold will yellow over time. You can have it redipped but it does require maintenence. White gold is not a pure white as platinum and sometimes casts a color over the diamond to make it appear more yellow than it really is.

Mom is married for 35yrs and has the same ring.. WHITE GOLD! She said YOU can't tell the difference unless you are a professional and she said not one day in 35 yrs had she ever had her ring fade or discolor..
She said the only thing she ever did to it was clean it....
