What did everyone think about the fantasy come true aspect of the book

I was very put off by this. She runs into a movie star, they become best friends and the movie star showers her with gifts, movie start falls in love with screenplay and procures and agent and a movie deal for Cannie, she gets a job writing for Moxie which causes Bruce to lose his job, etc.

It just seemed very unrealistic to me. I know, its fiction, but a lot of it seemed very much like a fairy tale for a book written for adults. At the end when she dropped all that weight and I thought she was going to be thin, I was very disappointed. I am glad that she gained the weight back and became comfortable with her appeaarance.

About the only cliche thing that was absent was a big lottery win.

becky I agree with you...I found the whole Maxi part to be a little fairy tale-ish...I do think her screenplay could have been sold though...

did you read the authors q&a part in the back?...she says that she wanted to write a happy ending to her life...at the time she didn't think there would be one...that made me 'appreciate' the fairy-tale parts a little more...

I didn't like the middle part either. It just seemed too out there and I couldn't relate to it. Maybe meeting Maxie but the whole thing with the movie star guy was over the top.

Dahling, thank you sooooo much for taking care of me. Please, take my car for a month. It is paid for through the end of the month. Just return it to the Yeah Right Car Dealership.

I agree, the car thing was ridiculous.

I couldn't agree more, Becky - I was so put off by the endless (unrealistic) cliche's.

I thought the book was very much a fantasy. I am all for someone having good luck in their lives - but this was too much to be real. For me, it took away from the rest of the book - which I enjoyed.

While I whole-heartedly agree with the unrealistness (is that a word??) of the part with the screen play and Maxi, I enjoyed it anyway. I knew going into the book that it was brain candy and wasn't expecting much, other than being entertained.

Same here Jenn and Erica ... I actually appreciated the book better after I read her Q&A. And Maxi, I pictured her to be Mini Driver.

Too funny -- I pictured Minnie Driver too.

I didn't think that the Maxi thing was too much, I liked the fact that something happened to give her career a real kickstart. It wasn't as if she only gave Maxi the screenplay, she had tried numerous times before. She just happened to luck out that time. I kind of liked the princess aspect, especially when the followup was the accident in the airport.
