We are going to close on our house in a few weeks and are trying to plan out what we need to do. What were some of the first things that you did? i.e. paint, change the locks etc. Also we were thinking of waiting a week before moving in but we think it will be wierd to own the house and not sleep there. How long did you wait to move in and sleep there after you closed?

We owned ours for a month before we moved in because we closed 3 weeks before our wedding! Before moving in all we did was change the locks, clean, clean clean, and painted our room and ripped up the carpeting (really nice hardwood floors was revealed!)

we changed the locks...the first day, painted the house and of course cleaned everything. We moved in then had the carpets installed.

we are closing in a few weeks also. Our plan is to change locks as well, CLEAN!, rip up some rugs, put in a few new windows, CLEAN!make some minor repairs to walls, ceilings, CLEAN more.

ours was now....we closed on a Thurs and moved in that Sunday to sleep here. We brought all necessary things-table/chairs, couches, bed, etc. We still have a ton of boxes in the apt. but it's nothing we need need right away.

I bought new toilet seats as soon as we signed the contract
First thing we did was disinfect the entire house, then paint, rewire and connect alarm system, and hang our new light fixtures. The house did not need work so we could move in the day of closing
