Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
it really depends on the financial situation... my future in-laws are paying for the rehearsal dinner, morning after brunch as well as a part of the wedding itself...hope this helps :)

Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
I think if you look on wedding channel or the knot- it will have that information.
But for us- they are paying for a little more than a third of the wedding.. Everyone contributed a certain amount, and we are working with that budget for everything.
ETA: I highly recommend getting all the money up front, setting up a bank account and you and FH manage the money and budgeting.. We have a debit card for the account- it is so easy to pay for things. give deposits, etc. without having to pick up the phone and call our parents every second..

Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
Technically, they really should pay for one big item (like the band or flowers).
Unfortunately, FI's parents are not paying for anything really. They just gave my parents $5000. No rehearsal dinner or anything. FI and I are paying for the HM.

this gets so sticky i agree everything should be done up front so no surprises. I am thankful for whatever anyone helps with. my fh family has not really offered to do anything and he wont ask them. its not a fiancial thing for them. I just dont know how to handle this. my family has been so generous and stepped up right away. his family thinks we are frivolous i think, trust me we are not.

My FMIL is giving us a big gift(1/3 the cost of our wedding) and paying for the rehersal dinner. I am so happy- this way she doesn't question everything I do since she's 'paying'.

I think my FIL's may think that too, but I don't think we've been over the top. Here's how our situation breaks down:
My parents paid/paying for e-party reception my gown and everything that goes along with it invitations letting us use their timeshares and airmiles for honeymoon
My FILs are paying for (they actually gave us a set amount and through good shopping this is what we're using it towards) photo/video band rehearsal dinner
We're paying for flowers limos gifts incidentals (which add up fast!)

My FI's parents are paying for about 25% of the wedding (photo/video, band, officiant), as well as the morning after brunch. My parents are paying for the rest.

Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
I think it depends a great deal on the financial situation. My FILs are paying for the rehearsal dinner (small, probably 10-15 people) and I think that's it.
I am more upset with my father, who has a great deal of money but only gave enough to cover a portion of the photographer cost. If they don't have it, I can certainly understand, but if they have a great deal of $...well then that's different.

In my case.....um, they pay for NOTHING...NADA....ZILCH....NIL. But these days, I've heard of a lot of in-laws paying for their own guests and the rd. It depends on the situation.

Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
My parents are pretty much paying for everything with as much help from us as possible. FH's parents are divorced and both sides have not brought any conversation up about payment (don't expect them to either). I think every situation is different though. It depends on the financial situation and what their willingness is to contribute.

Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
we're getting together tonight for dinner w/both sets of parents to discuss that. . .i've been naucous all day!
i think what will probably happen is that fh's family will pay for their family and maybe fh's friends (they're family is HUGE) even though they don't have a lot of $$-or any at all
my parents will pay for their family and i guess my friends. . .they don't have tons of money either, but it's more than FIL's but they don't think it's fair for them to pay for fil's huge family when they'd have to limit their list
very different concepts of money and values. . .i'll let you know how it all turns out

Re: What do groom's parents traditionally pay for?
My DH's dad payed for the rehearsal dinner and he also gave us a BIG gift $$$$$!! DH and I payed for our honeymoon, rings, and all the extra little stuff that really added up. My parents, mostly mom, payed for the rest!! And we are so thankful to all of them, whatever they contributed, because without them, it would have been a quick trip to vegas for our wedding!
