I just had lunch with a friend and he said him and his wife have separate checking accounts. Everything is separate!!!!

Chris and I have a seperate checking account which our paychecks go into.
However we have 2 joint savings accounts one for the wedding and one for well hopefully a house haha
But when he comes home from Japan we are going to just combine our checking accounts into one.
We always say whats mine is yours!!

I guess whatever works for the specific couple, I grew up in a house where everything was joined but FH everything was separate so we are going to have to figure out a way to compromise.

I think whatever the couple decides is right for them is fine!
FH and I have a joint already, and it will stay that way after the wedding..... and my parents are the same.
I guess it's just what you're used to!

right now we have separate acccounts we have 1 joint account that we put our wedding moeny and etc in...
when we get married we will have joint.. what is his is mine and what is mine is his.. thats just how i feel it should be. but for some it might be easier to have separate

After the engagment party we are going to open up a joint household account for all the bills, groceries, etc. We are both going to contribute the same amount into that joint account each month. Then we are still going to keep our own checking accounts on the side. I dont want to lose 100% of my independence. If I want to go buy $100 pair of shoes, I should be able to without worry!

FH and I were talking about this yesterday. We've always shared an account since as early as we can remember. It just would feel funny to say he's paying for this or I'm paying for that when we've been together so long!

We have a joint account (checking and savings) plus 2 seperate savings accounts. Our paychecks are direct deposited into the joint account minus $50 that get deposited into our seperate savings accounts. All the bills get paid out of our joint account but this way we do have our own money if we need it.
For example, he has a 10-game baseball package with a couple friends. He pays for the tickets and any money he spends at the games with the money from his savings account.

absolutely 100% seperate....I work hard for my $$ and support my kids.....I dont think he should have to give up his independance or me give up mine !!

we currently have separate, then one joint checking and one joint savings account. once we are married we will mostly use the joint accounts, and keep a little extra spending money in separate accts.

we have a joint savings account now with seperate checking accounts. Once we marry, we will have a combined checking and savings with seperate savings accounts for us to save a little money on our own.

My parents' have always had separate accounts. Right now, we don't have a joint account, but I want to, to make it easier for him to put his paychecks into an account I have access to...I'm MUCH better with money than he is...He's a spender, I'm a saver...so, I'll be in charge of the money... that said, neither of us have ever said, 'my money'. whoever's got cash to spare, pays for whatever it is...

i have no money therefore we are putting my name on his account, if i had money id keep mine separate and still put my name on his account, lol, hahah, jk.
we both have sep checking now and a joint savings but once we are married we will combine them and have joint checking and savings.
