Today is the last day I was contracted to work with my current company... a place I absolutely hate. At this point I hate the place and the requirements of the job. I'm not sure if it is the industry I dont like - so I'm giving this field one more chance.
I've been interviewing like a maniac, and found a job I may like ( crossing fingers ) - The job is similar to the one I have now. More similar than I would prefer, but it seems like a better fit than I was expecting. I'm in a field that there is a real need for people, so I'm not in a situation where I need to take a job now or else I will miss my chance.
My question is - would it be a good idea for me to start a job now, 2 months before the wedding? I'm distracted by the wedding, and I have a job now that I pretty much mentally quit, so I do wedding stuff alot. If I start the new job, most places said it won't be a problem at all to take the 2 weeks off for a honeymoon. I wanted to start after the wedding, but these opportunites are here now, I don't know if I should pass, and interview again, staying in a place I hate - or start something new before the wedding.
what do you think? advice please

Re: What do I Do Guys - NWR
So- if you don't take this other job you won't work until after the wedding??
I guess it depends on if you need the income or not. I personally have been through some crappy work sitches-- and strongly believe that you should try your best to make yourself happy.
If it is not the perfect fit, and you are in a position to wait-- I say hold off. Those last two months-- forget about it! I did no work unless I really had a deliverable..

I wouldn't suggest starting a new job right before a wedding (especially two months) you'll need time off, and a lot of places you go to, you'll have to accrue the time off, and you can't walk in there, work a month, and then ask for two months off....that's something to take into consideration.

Yeah - I guess I could hold off. The only thing is that this is a company that specializes in a field I'm interested in.
I would be walking right into their busy time though - which is really bad.

I'd do it...A hole on a resume is not good, even if (especially if?) you explain you were busy with your wedding. It could be harder to find something when you get back from the HM and then you may be kicking yourself. BTW, I only took 5 days off for my wedding. We went on a 7 day HM, so only 5 days off work.

Is it possible this job you want would let you start after the wedding? Its a long shot, but its worth asking.

You didn't take time off before?
I guess perhaps I wont need it - I plan on taking 2 weeks off between the jobs, so I will have time to tie up loose ends.

Yea, I agree. although wedding planning is really important and so is the whole wedding itself, the truth is, you are looking at something that will help you passed the one day of a wedding. Holes in resume always need to be explained and its generally hard to do so. The best way to possibly broach the whole time off thing is when they offer you the job, make sure you let them know that you ned these dates off around the wedding and then they will hire you with that understanding. I wouldn't tell them upfront before they even offer it because that may sway their decision (which stinks.) Remember, wedding is just one day but your career is years and years.

No. I really didn't have much last minute stuff that couldn't be done on the weekends or at night. I actually think taking days off would have stressed myself out more, so I was glad I didn't. Everything went very smoothly too! I actually took the Friday afternoon off the day before and got manis and pedis with my MOH before the RD. So it was 5 1/2 days total.

I think I could have taken an entire week off before and found stuff to do--go over my must-take photo list 10x, going over lists for the hall, yet another fitting...I was organized and made tons of lists! But I really wasn't too crazy beforehand. And I actually had 30 vacation days at work I had accumulated that I could've used, so it wasn't for lack of days.

Re: What do I Do Guys - NWR
Don't rule it out right away. If they give the offer, say I'll accept but know that I'll need to take X amount of days off for my wedding. Offer to do it unpaid - you won't have any vacation accrued anyways. Better to be paid for the remaining time for a job that you actually like.
