What Do I tell my boss?

What Do I tell my boss?

I'm looking for a new job, and she's suspicious of it. Now, we've got something going on that is work related scheduled for either early on Wednesday or the late afternoon. She asked me IF I could join her. She didn't TELL me I had to join her. Here's my dilemma:

I've got a job interview Weds. at 6pm. I'm afraid that if I go in the late afternoon, I'll be late to my interview.

So....what is my reason for why I can't go in the afternoon?

You have an appt. with your photographer to see your proofs. You can hardly wait.

You have to meet me for drinks to discuss emergency wedding planning?
WHAT? You don't think she'll buy it!!!

Honestly, I have no idea. You can tell her yes and then have a friend call and tell you there is a family emergency.

I really think this is a good idea. That way it you aren't making up some story in advance. Have anyone of your friends call you @ 5:15 PM with a crisis that needs immediate attention.

Since its after hours, I dont think its any of her business and you dont have to think of an excuse. Just say you have a personal prior engagement, but thanks for inviting me.

The problem with this is she won't actually have her proofs to bring into work the next day and show them off.

Although, I just thought of something - she could say she has an appointment with the videographer to drop off baby pictures and music selections for the editing of the video. That way there is NO final product for the office to expect to see the next day.

We all have lives. They can't expect you to be around all the time. There are so many excuses. Time to put your lying hat on.

BTW... Out of 10 people I work with, only 2 *aren't* actively interviewing for other jobs.

I think the less complicated the better. Just say you have an appointment. You shouldn't have to be specific.

I agree with this. That way you're not lying and she doesn't know the whole truth.

I completely AGREE! it's after hours and you have prior engagments that you can not reschedule! good luck!

stick with you have a doctors appt that you've had for a couple of weeks and when you tried to reschedule, there wasn't another opening for 3 weeks and you really need to get in to see him.

i'm thinking- ditch my idea unless you really want to drink!

The gyno idea is better. Since your boss is female she may ask you if everything is alright. You can tell her that last night you were in lots of pain and think you may have a ruptured cyst. You called your GYN to make an appt. and she wanted you to come in for an ultrasound.

Next day say you went for the ultrasound and they said you ruptured a cyst. Then tell her that they found two fibroids. This way you can use them for future excuses.

I'd stick to faking illness the day of...if you say it's an appt. and she already suspects you are job hunting...could get ugly.

eta---or anything random that happens THAT day so as to keep her from thinking you schemed your way out of it.

I agree - I would tell her that you would love to go with her, however you have to be somewhere at 6pm, so you will have to leave by 5:30pm. She should not have to know what you are doing after hours.

Good Luck with the interview!!!
