I have to go tomorrow to HR and get finger printed, drug test and she said a background check.
I got nothing to hide. I was never arrested, never did anything bad, etc...but for some reason i hear background check and I get so nervous.
I am in a big financial company so I am guessing they are looking to see if I have a criminal past.

Criminal record, any court cases outstanding or pending... they may do a credit check if it is in finance- that sort of thing... they make sure you are legal to work in this country, and that you have not ever been fired under suspicion.
Don't worry, you will be fine

they didnt ask for blood. I am guessing the cup thing. She told me I have to go to medical.
I hope its not blood. I faint whenever anyone takes blood

Re: what do they look for in a background check
You should be signing a release that outlines the type of investigation they are doing. They must have a separate one if they plan on doing a credit check, which they do in almost all financial institutions (I did HR for an investment bank.) They can also check prior work history, education and your driving record.
PS: I 've never heard them using a blood test for a drug screen, so you should be ok there.

Re: what do they look for in a background check
I work in HR and there's no blood test at my place! A urine test for drugs, but no blood involved!
As for the background, ours includes: criminal, credit, college (if applicable) & references.
They always have to get your signed consent before checking anything though.

also want to add that they cannot check to see if you're legally allowed to work in the US until AFTER they've hired you. It's illegal to ask beforehand for proof - that's why most applications just ask if you're hired, are you able to provide proof that you're allowed to work in the US.
