what do u all think of this........

for a touch of the military in our wedding

POW/MIA Remembrance Table

It is set for one, symbolizing the fact that members of our armed forces are missing from our ranks. They are referred to as POWs and MIAs.

We call them comrades.

They are unable to be with their loved ones and families, so we join together to pay our humble tribute to them, and bear witness to their continue absence.

This table, set for one, is small, symbolizing the frailty of one prisoner, alone against his or her suppressors.

The tablecloth is white, symbolic of the purity of their intentions to respond to their country’s call to arms.

The single red rose in the vase, signifies the blood that many have shed in sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America. This rose also reminds us of the family and friends of our missing comrades who keep faith, while awaiting their return.

The yellow ribbon on the vase represents the yellow ribbons worn on the lapels of the thousands who demand with unyielding determination a proper accounting of our comrades who are not among us tonight.

A slice of lemon the plate reminds us of their bitter fate.

The salt sprinkled on the plate reminds us of the countless fallen tears of families as they wait.

The glass is inverted, they cannot toast with us this night.

The chair is empty, they are not here.

The candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to illuminate their way home, away from their captors, to the open arms of a grateful nation.

TY ladies, I was afraid it may be too upsetting or sad for a happy occasion but I think that it is touching and a perfect way to include his military service in our wedding!!!!!!!!1

I thini t would be a perfect reminder that although there are things going on in the world that are out of our control, and there are people risking thier lives in other parts of the world, there is still time to celebrate the good things in life.
I think it would be a good balance between the two without being too morbid

this is what i am thinking...

it all depends on the context and execution though. do you have a personal connection with a loss or do you just want the military in general be remembered?

if you have dealt with a personal loss i can understand the desire to include something like this - if it is just to pay respect, i would perhaps consider something more celebratory and include other military traditions.

IMO - too depressing. Might upset people. Im dealing with trying to incorporate my dad (who passed away when I was young) into the wedding, but I have to be careful about how it will make others feel.

I personally wouldn't do it. Being a Marine myself, this is something WE do at OUR functions. I can understand you wanting to have some sort of military significance at your wedding, but I don't think this is the way to go. Not to mention those fellow Marines you will have at your wedding, may be extremely saddened by this. I still get upset when I see something relating to fallen soldiers/Marines/sailors/airmen.

IMO- also, too depressing. I think that it is beautiful, but if I saw it at a wedding it would sadden me. I would prefer to think of the couple's joy and have something that celebrates that.

I agree wit some others...I wouldn't do it...to me it is VERY depressing...I would want my wedding to be the one day i wouldn't have to think about other world issues! There are 365 other days to think about war

Though it's a beautiful thought, I would have to agree with some people that it might be too depressing.

I say for you personally....Go for it if you want to.

I personally would not. I can only begin to imagine what you are going through right now and I am sure that you have nothing but good intentions right now but, I think it is sad. But that may not be a bad thing. Maybe some of your guests need the reminder. If it makes you feel better....go for it. Good Luck to you!!
