What do we really need???

What do we really need???

We've run into a problem w/Caiden's Baptism party. It's costing way too much money, and we can't afford it at this point. I was hoping you girls can tell me what foods do we really need? Do we need appetizers, vegetable plate, salad, etc? The trays of food is Italian. We really need to cut costs. I'm hoping we're just over doing it with the food. Just a reminder, we're getting food trays and throwing the party ourselves at a Fire Department. Please help!

What time of day are you having the party? How many people? You can really have what ever you want. What does your family usually do?

Can you cut the appitizers and do chips/ salsa, veggie/dip. Your main dish choices bread and salad. Have coffee & cake for desert. Stick to soft drinks or maybe punch.

Fran nailed it - you don't have to go crazy.

You or another family member could even do some of it yourself if you have the time - a baked ziti from a deli or restaurant is around $50-60 but can be made at home for less then $15.

I was going to suggest what Christine said....Fran gave great guidance too...but, if you (or some family and friends) can make some of the food, that would really help you to cut costs.

Melissa is it a possibility to just have cake, dessert and coffee? Maybe it doesn't need to be a whole dinner thing? Maybe you can have a nice champagne toast and then serve dessert? Or maybe just appetizers and dessert?

The party is around 3:30pm and we've invited 60 people (we're still not sure how many will actually come though)... So far I've been able to cut out about $200.00. I don't want it to be crappy though so it's hard.

Do you think it's better to have a vegetable tray as an appetizer or salad w/dinner?

We're going to have...

Appetizers:

Mixed Hor D'ourves (package)
Bagle Bites - ?
1 Tray - Antipasto - ?
Vegetable Tray - ?

Dinner:

Salad - ?
1 Tray - Chicken Parmesan
1 Tray - Baked Ziti
1 Tray - Stuffed Shells
1/2 Tray - Sausage & Peppers
1/2 Tray - Meatballs

Italian Bread

Dessert:

Cake
Italian Cookies
Italian Pastries - ?

Is this enough food? Should we change the type or amount of food? I need as much input as possible! Is there anything I should add or take out? HELP!!!

My DH and I haven't really been to parties, so we honestly dont\'t have a clue on what to have so that's why I wanted to ask you ladies.

I think you can skip one of the full trays. And the pastries. And the bagel bites.

For 50 - 60 people this is what I would do to keep cost reasonable:

Appetizers:
1 Tray - Antipasto
Vegetable Tray - Homemade
Chips & Pretzels if there are kids coming

Dinner:
Salad
1 Tray - Chicken Parmesan
1 Tray - Baked Ziti OR 1 Tray - Stuffed Shells Homemade
1Tray - Sausage & Peppers
1/2 Tray Meatballs
Italian Bread

Dessert:
Cake
Italian Cookies
Coffee Tea

Soft Drinks and Punch

Can you make your own antipasto? Isn't it just a bunch of olives, cheese and ham thrown together with some oil/spices?

These are great ideas... I'll talk to my sister about these when I talk to her later.

How do you make Antipasto??? I don't even know what's in it.

Re: What do we really need???

I would make my own ziti- super cheap and my own meatballs and sausages- super easy! make my own salad and bring 2 types of bottled dresssings. you can also make a spiral ham from Costo for about $30 instead of ckn. parm- and save a ton there too.
Forget the pastries, just do a cake and you can buy a cookie tray at costco for a lot less than in the bakery.

Antipasta has whatever you want in it- roasted peppers, mozz. cheese balls, artichoke hearts, olives...it is not a set thing.
