Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

We use Lowitt Alarms and have had no problems. In fact the one time I accidentally set it off the police arrived very quickly.

I'd have to ask DH what we pay. I'm not sure what the deal is - we bought the house from my in laws and just assumed their contract with Lowitt, so I don't know if we get the same rate they paid or if it was increased when we took it over.

I have ADT. My alarm has gone off a few times by mistake, and they are always on top of things. It's less than $30/month, but I don't remember the exact amount.

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

I just started the process of looking into this. A lot of companies seem to give you what they call the installation for free - but it's usually only 2 doors and motion sensor - none of the windows are included. They told me that they are $65 for each window -
Once I get some more info. I will post again.
Don't you think you have to get your windows too?

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

i agree... i would imagine windows to be very important... otherwise people can get into your basement/second floor without triggering the alarm... so windows would definatley be good

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

We have an alarm and we have all the windows and doors and we also have the smoke detectors connected to it.

The smoke detector is a must. One day I was cooking and fell asleep. The alarm went off and woke me up and the alarm company were right on it to call the fire department. I was so out of it from the smoke.

I was a bit scared b/c the smell of smoke did not wake me up. I would of stayed in the house and who knows what would of happen.

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

We have Slomins...it's good. Anytime the alarm went off we always got a call. They are helpful. One thing to watch out is that they are always looking to make more money (ok, what business isn't!). I've called a few times to ask a question about the system (it was already here when I moved in) and they constantly want to send someone out to talk about upgrades!

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

We have ADT and so far, no problems. I guess how would you know if there was a problem unless the house was robbed though

We're looking into the wired-in fire alarms because I'm deathly afraid of something happening (like one poster's brother's did recently) where the house went up and his dogs/pets were trapped. I could care, let it all burn (not seriously) but I wouldn't be able to function knowing my animals didn't have a chance.....

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

We talked to a few companies and rather than do the windows, they suggested either motion detectors or sound detectors. Motion obviously tracks motion, and the sound detector picks up breaking glass. This was said to be more cost effective, and was still efficient.

If you have a few strategically placed motion detectors they will pick up anyone roaming, for instance they suggested that if someone came in a basement window they would likely come upstairs, and would be picked up by the motion sensor tracking the hallway from the bedrooms and the intersection by the living room, dining room and basement stairs.

The only thing it wouldn't cover is a smash and grab, where someone broke into a room that was not covered, and grabbed stuff and went right back out the window. They did suggest that we might want to do a few windows, but this avoided having to do them all.

Re: What do you all think of Slomans Sheild Alarm systems?

All of our ground floor windows have sensors on them and then we have a motion sensor upstairs. The fire alarm is hooked in.
