Do you call your FMIL mom or will you call by her first name?? My FSIL calls her by her first name and I feel that might be disrespectful and should call her mom? Has this come up at all with anyone?

Re: What do you call FMIL??
When FH and I were dating, she wanted me to call her by her first name, but I didn't feel comfortable doing that, so I called her Mrs. C... But even that was always awkward. As soon as my FH proposed, I asked her if I could call her 'mom', and she was honored. So, I call her mom now.
My FH has been calling my parents mom and dad since we've been dating. I was so happy that it came so naturally to him.

When we got engaged, I started calling my In-laws Mom & Dad. It was weird at first, but now its like second nature.

Re: What do you call FMIL??
When I first started hanging out with my FH, I called her Mrs. A.. Then a joke came about and I now call her Maureen, even though this is not her name! I will most likely call her mom after the wedding.

Re: What do you call FMIL??
i call her mamma rella... i was able to find a cute name that kind of cut the 'awkward' feelings when you say it. and then at other times i'm able to call her mom and feel comfortable about it.
i wouldn't care what your FSIL does, i would do what you feel is right. you never know, maybe your FMIL doesn't actually like the fact that FSIL does that and it will make her feel nice when you call her mom!

Re: What do you call FMIL??
I call them by their first names, but when I refer to them to DH it is your mom or your dad. To my parents DH calls them by both their first names and mom and dad. He calls my grandma, grandma; but everyone calls her grandma.

I do and will call her by her first name..no one in FH family calls the inlaws mom or dad So i guess i will keep the trend going
I know that is what has happened in my FH's family
yeah but jenn, that's not how mom and dad raised us and you know that you won't feel right about doing that especially b/c you like phil's mom so much (she is SO much better than my FH's mom which i hate you for!!) but lol, you should call her mom b/c of those reasons!!
and i read what phil said about calling dad dad-- awwwww... i feel bad for him, i think after a while he'll get used to it, at least he likes dad so much- i don't know WHY!! Vin does too, weird?!

Re: What do you call FMIL??
I call his Mother by her first name. I will never call her mom. She is not my mother. Same goes for everyone else on his mother's side. all by first names even his Grandmother. They have not earned it and if and WHEN I do feel comfortable to call at least his grandmother grandma.. I will do so on my terms.. not b/c they say I should..forcing things upon people is quite rude and imposing. This is just my situation..

Re: What do you call FMIL??
I call her by her first name, sometimes I say mom, FH calls my mom, Momma. I don't think my mom or his mom care either way.

Re: What do you call FMIL??
This is funny but I never say her name nor do I call her mom. Whenever I see her I just say hi! Maybe after we're married I'll call her mom just to piss her off

Re: What do you call FMIL??
It was never discussed, which would make me uncomfortable if I wanted to talk to them about any subject. I called them Mr. and Mrs. until we got engaged, and then called them by their first names (because that's how they signed cards). When I'm talking to DH, it's 'Your Mother' and 'Your Dad' (because I like his dad, even though I'm terrified of him). I will never call either of them 'Mom' or 'Dad' because they don't deserve the title.
DH calls my parents by their first names, and has since we started dating, because that's what they're comfortable with.

Re: What do you call FMIL??
I switched it up in the beginning - at first I called her by her first name, until FI told me that where they're from (bumble-fuzz Maryland) they do the Mr. & Mrs. thing. So then I would call her Mrs. ___. Lately, I've gotten lazy and feel awkward using Mrs., so I've switched back to her first name. I think she thinks its a 'New York thing' and it doesn't seem to bother her.
I think FMIL is great, but I don't think I could call her 'Mom' - I already have one!
