What do you call FMIL??

Do you call your FMIL mom or will you call by her first name?? My FSIL calls her by her first name and I feel that might be disrespectful and should call her mom? Has this come up at all with anyone?

Sometimes I call her Ma, sometimes I call her by her name

I do and will call her by her first name..no one in FH family calls the inlaws mom or dad So i guess i will keep the trend going

I know that is what has happened in my FH's family

I'll be honest - I dont really call her anything. She is definitely the type to be INSULTED if I called her anything other than 'mom'...But I'm just not sure I can do that...

Really confusing- You would think they would have just let you call them by their first names until you are married and then call them mom and dad-

Exactly...which is what my mom did! Drove me nuts for a while, but now I kind of get a kick out of watching them squirm to see if I'll 'address' them.

i have NEVER called her by any name because i don't know what title/name to use!! So basically I talk to her w/o saying her name. If i need to get her attention I say 'Hey!' & start talking till she realizes im talking to her

Me too!!!

Funny enough, my FH does the same thing with my parents

Don't call her anything - just say hello - I probably will call her by her first name after we are married i feel funny using the first name

ugh...I still call my FMIL Mrs. X.....
I think I'll still be calling her that even when I become Mrs. X!!!!

Ugh this will most likely be what I have to do to...she's very very old fashioned and has this whole 'respect' thing where she needs the DIL to bow down to her...no bowing from me but I will still probably have to call her Mrs. X....hmmm..unless I try to call her by her first name after the wedding just to throw her for a loop...

FH and his siblings calll her by her first name so I do too.

i call her 'signora' which basically means mrs. in italian and FH does the same with my mom. once we get married i guess we'll both transition to calling them Mamma but it definitely won't be easy

I will continue to refer to her as Rosemary, until she tells me otherwise. I get that I am marrying into the family, but to call her mom is weird for me.

I don't call her anything.. FH and I have been together for almost 7 years and i just have not felt comfortable enough to call her anything. How weird is that? (that is how she makes me feel)

I call her on the phone, and just say, HI, it's angela, how are you, stuff like that.

She is terrible, plain and simple, that is why!

I am very close to my parents and I dont want to call anyone else Mom & Dad. When something happens to my parents, I will find it really hard to call my in-laws mom & dad. It has nothing to do with them, they are great. I told my FH i might call them Mom & Dad in Portugese since thats what they speak and it doesnt sound like mom & dad to me but it will to them.

I call them Mom and Dad, and I'm happy they feel close enough to me to even want me to call them that. Now, my dad is Daddy and he always will be....

I call FMIL by her first name as per her request. Same with FFIL. I could never ever call them Mom and Dad. That's just too weird for me. I admit that calling them by their first names is odd too but, since that's what she wants, that's what it'll be.

I call her Mrs. xxxx. That was how I was raised and FH calls my parents by the same Mr or Mrs xxx. After the wedding, I don't know- maybe first names. I don't feel comfortable yet calling FIL Mom and Dad.

i try not to address her directly cause i get so nervous. when i call, i just say 'hi, it's lisa'

at my food tasting less than one month into my engagement, i said 'mom, what do you think of the pasta' and of course, i meant, 'my mom'.... but my FMIL replied too.... kinda uncomfortable for me.

my FH doesn't really address my parents either. i think it's something that really has to grow on you.

Out of respect I want to call her Mrs. xxx, but I get to nervous so I never have actually addressed her in any way, first name or last, and definatly not mom. I don't think that would fly past her too well before we're married. FH's dad pasted on when he was 11, so....

As for my folks, they asked him to called them by their first names and that's been working. We'll see what happens after the wedding.
