I so rarely post and today it's all complaints about HIS family! Anyway, I usually love them, but a few things just bug me. Let me know what you think - the first thing is that they STILL have not told me to call them by their first names. They are still Mr. and Mrs. to me. Kevin and I have been together for 3 years and I'm going to be their daighter-in-law! Does anyone else have that?
The second thing is that my FMIL and FSIL and having a shower for me in CT for their side of the family - they wanted to avoid having their whole side have to travel to the one my mom is doing. That's fine - very nice of them, but it is SO obvious that my FMIL thinks of it as a big pain in the neck. She doesn't enjoy entertaining or planning, and she doesn't really want to spend the $$. I just wish she didn't offer to do it because every time I bring it up and she changes the subject it hurts my feelings!

Re: Call me something other than Mr. & Mrs!!
I've been with FH for 8 years so it went from Mr. & Mrs. to that 'not sure what to call you so I won't call you anything phase', then finally started calling them by their first name, now I still call FFIL by his first name but I call FMIL Mamma Donna. Sorry to hear your having problems with this.

Re: What do you call your in-laws?
I only have a FMIL and I call her mom. As for the shower, since your mother is having one for you here, I would confirm with FMIL that she doesn't want her family invited to it. At that point, what she decides to do for you is up to her. You really can't be pushy about a party given to you, and as long as she is aware you have considered her side of the family, she has nothing to say about it, whatever her decision.

Re: What do you call your in-laws?
At first when I was first introduced to the family, I called them by Mr. & Mrs.... Now that time has gone by and I am their FDIL, I call them Mom and Dad. It felt right and they accept it. All the other in-laws referred to them by that, so it didn't seem strange.

I started calling them mom and dad right away b/c if I waited it would just be too strange for me. (I call my parents mom & dad in greek) so I guess I differentiate it that way and don't feel too weird about it.

Re: What do you call your in-laws?
I try not to refer to them directly to them as anything, as to avoid the title awkwardness However, since we got engaged, I write out all the birthday and anniversary cards, and always address them to Mom/Dad love me and FH. Same w. my bday cards from them, they are signed Mom/Dad.
