someone who you are not super close with calls you after they received your save the dates and says 'sorry, I cant make your wedding because I have another wedding that day' - do I bother even sending them a formal invitation?! I say NO! JMO - what would you ladies do?

I wouldnt send them an invitation. They already told you that they werent coming and you can use that invite for someone else. JMO

I agree with all of you - plus I think its a little rude that they even called to be honest. Its like they didnt even say 'oh I like your std but .....' they just left a msg on machine 'we got your std, but we cant come' - no one ever rsvps to a std!!!! Its better off though because now I dont have to waste an invite!!

i actually disagree ... i think you should send her an invitation (or at least tell her verbally that she won't be getting one because she already said she can't come).
i think it's very nice of your friend to call you as soon as she realized.

While it is rude, I think they're overall being more helpful than anything! At least now you can include 2 other people in your guest list instead of waiting for them to mail back a 'No'. Also, like others said, you can save the invite (I know these can be really pricey!). To answer your question, I definitely wouldn't send them an invite now, no need to beat a dead horse.

I have 3 couples who responded to my STD and I am sending them an invitation anyway. Even though they know that they won't be able to come, I still think its nice to send them an invitation
