What do you do if you get your hair colored and hate it?

I just spent a fortune on getting my hair highlights and lowlights. This was my first time at a new salon. I thought I was pretty specific about what I wanted, but when she dried it, the highlights look like nothing and the lowlights didn't even cover my few gray hairs! I said to her it wasn't what I imagined and that I wanted more dramatic highlights (she called mine 'subtle' while I would say they are nonexistant), and she said to wait a couple weeks and see if the highlights become lighter with washing. They may become slightly lighter, but I know they won't become what I wanted! I don't know if I am a sap and didn't argue enough...If would be one thing if it wasn't expensive, but to pay a fortune and leave hating it is an awful feeling.

I had the same problem a few years ago. It was my first time getting highlights and I told the stylist I wanted highlights all over my head and wanted a 'dramactic' look...well after about I think 3 hrs or so...I couldn't even find my 'dramatic highlights'. My hair color was a softer tone, but it was in no way shape or form what I wanted. I didn't say anything to her, (wish I did), but she did see me looking at my hair in the mirror closely to see where the highlights were....she told me that it was going to get lighter....YEAH RIGHT! I paid $120...and when my friends saw my hair color...they did notice it was slightly a lighter shade...but couldn't really notice the highlights.

Then about two years later my friend did highlights for me...the one out of the box. For $10 I got exactly what I wanted.

If I were you I'd tell them that it really wasn't what you wanted and see if they can achieve what you want. They may charge you more- but if they are a honest salon who wants to keep a potential customer they will do the right thing.
Did you bring any pictures w/ you for the stylist to see? I know the next time I go get my hair cut/highlighted I'm going to give them pictures so they don't screw up...Unfortunately, people just don't listen anymore!!!!

Thanks. I didn't bring a picture, but I did point out an employee that had the look I was going for. It cost $200 and they ushered me quickly to the door so other people waiting wouldn't hear me complaining. It looks like my natural hair color with sun in sprayed on it, which I could buy for $5 and do at home, without wasting 3 hours of my life. That's another thing--when they fix it, it's another 3 hours I have to spend there! And I would rather have someone other than the woman who did it fix it.

I agree..a reputable salon will do the right thing. Go back there and schedule a tiem to get it fixed by another colorist. Don't take no for an answer. Come there with your receipt.

Wouldnt it make sense for them to do it THE WAY you asked for it to be done and keep a customer then do it how they felt and lose a customer!!!

I went to a friend of mine, who does this for a living and the highlights were non-existent...last week I bought the stuff at Walgreens and it looks SOOOOOOOO much better!!!

I would say dont wait, go back and ***** about it, make them fix it or give you some money back.

Well this happened to me once...the guy did what he wanted NOT what I asked for...I waited a day to make sure that I really hated it..AND I DID I called the salon spoke to the hair dresser told him I hated it and he gave me and attitide BUT I MADE HIM FIX IT..the was the last time I ever went to that place
