What do you do to keep yourself busy when you fly?
Original post by JanuaryBride06
I've got my journal, music, a book that I'm really excited to read (Love in the Time of Cholera) and sudoku. And DH. Should be enough to distract me from being on a plane!

I am a bad flyer, so I usually have to take a pill to take the edge off. I try to only fly jetblue so i can keep myself occupied watching tv. If I bring my laptop, i play a game on the computer or i play sudoku

Yes, that is what it is called. I was just on a plane for my HM and I liked reading that too! It's a cool magazine.
To answer the question: I like to read and I do try to sleep.

OK- here's my professional travelers advice: Sleep mask Ear plugs Comfortable, loose fitting clothes HUGE bottle of water (yes, they have it on the plane, but why get a small cup/bottle that you have to continuosly have to ask for) healthy munchy (trail mix)
As for alcohol- go easy. Especially on a long flight. Alcohol hits you harder when your at altitude. Every 1 drink will hit you like 2. Also, it's very drying- so you're likely to become dehydrated. Dehydrated= bloating and exhaustion.
Try to get up and walk around every couple of ours to reduce the feet swelling to.
But most important- drink LOTS of water.

Read it!!!
After the wedding, it will be that book or one other finalist. Decisions decisions Have you read Atlas Shrugged - it has been on my bookshelf for over a year too I have too many books
Su-uz!!!!!!! READ Atlas Shrugged! NOW!!!
As for what I do RE: flying - I try to fly Virgin if I can (I fly between London and NYC a lot) because they have the best entertainment system. Otherwise, the only thing that really takes my mind off of things is a light read - either a 'trashy' book or People, US, etc some kind of tabloid. I made the mistake of brining an Edgar Allen Poe book on my flight last week and it was really hard to get into while being on the plane because I was constantly distracted by noise, turbulence, and my own thoughts!!
DH and I have a few drinks, which helps a bit.
And I usually bring my ipod.
AND when we fly from NY to London, we usually take the redeye and I usually try to make it into work from the plane, so I HAVE to sleep. I usually get a few hours - it helps if I can stretch out across a few seats.
Have fun!

I usually stay up all night before the flight and I usually just sleep.

Needed to bump this because I will be on a plane in less than 24 hours for a 6 hour flight!!!
I have my iPod loaded, but wondering what else I should have since I can't read for too long....my eyes are going even with my glasses on!!

You can try to take a 'sleeping' pill so you sleep most of the flight
