What do you do with out-of-towners??

My 'little' brother and I are conspiring to kill our parents by having our weddings three months apart! Anyway, he will be marrying a girl from upstate NY where they also plan on being married (July 4, 2004). ALL of our family is from LI and will travel 4 1/2 hours to the wedding. What is the protocol on what to do with out-of towners. I mean whose responsibility is it to host something for them? And what and when and where? Thanks!

Well, you can either invite them to the RD or have a brunch the day after.

Most of my guests are from out of state, my reception ends at 6pm on a Sat so my parents are having some people back to their house after and also a brunch Sunday. Our RD is Thurs so the only people in town then will be our bridal party and immediate family.

We also got a block of rooms with a group rate of $119/night to save our guests some money!

Back in March I sent out an info packet with the hotel info and a local LI magazine that has a map inside and things to do in the area.

my FH is also from upstate NY and we are having our wedding on LI. Since many of our guests are going to be from out of town, we first blocked off a bunch of rooms at a hotel near the reception so they have a place to stay and don't have to search for a near by hotel. Since I am the one who lives on LI, my parents are going to have an 'open-house' for the weekend and welcome anyone to stay there or stop by if they need to kill some time. We are not planning anything special for them right now, but I am sure my parents will have food/drinks for anyone throughout the weekend. Luckily, the hotel we booked has things that our guests can do as well...
our guests also get a full breakfast at the hotel the following day so we don't have to plan a brunch or anything like that.
