It doesn't affect international flights, domestic only. The other major carriers will be following suit so while temporarily American will lost cusotmers they will go back.
Yes I think it is absurb but it is a sign of the times and the truth is people won't stop flying. Just like they won't stop driving because of the price of gas.
Oh and girls who already booked your flights are good. Its takes affect on tickets booked June 1.
(My company has an inhouse travel agency that is where I got all of my information).

Yep! i have been to Florida 2 times in the past 3 months and both times flew american and they either lost bags screwed up the seating arrangements or were late. and i don`t mean half hour waiting for a storm to pass late i mean hours upon hours of waiting because they didn`t want to give the pilots overtime so we waited in the airport then again on the plane! after 3 hours of dely in the airport (after getting there 2 hours early for security!) we waited an hour on the plane sitting there waiting while they looked for an extra pilot!!!
and the time they lost the bags they just kept saying just stay here and watch for it it`ll be on the next flight it`ll be on the next flight....ohhhh maybe it got crossed it could be on its way to south america we will get it to you in a few days....well ok good luck with that we will be on a boat in the middle of the ocean!

Ugh! Don't tell me that... We booked with them about a month ago for HM to Hawaii and have a stop over each way... There's nothing like lost luggage to put a damper on any vacation much less your HM!

first off I HATE American Airlines. I would never fly them again- I have had too many miserable trips with them. They aren't the only ones charging. We are taking Continental to Hawaii and we have to pay 110 bucks each additional bag and if it is over 50 lbs then its 150!!!!!! we are going for 12 days- there is no way i can get around these extra charges and I am sooo pissed!!!!

Def. the other major carriers will soon follow. Its always happens like that. Jet Blue is now charging i think $15.00 if you want to book the 'roomier' seats. I guess that what they are doing instead of charging for the checked bags,

just pack a change of cloths and your bathing suit (if you will need one) in your carry on! i will always do this now that i have learded the hard way!!!!

I didn't realize it went up so much and AA charging for bags?? Are they serious?? I would never fly with them for all that.. FH and I are driving, not because of this, gas is just as much, but because I am soooo done with flying for this year anyway.
