What do you give for a Christening???

They are having it at John Anthony's? I do not want to look like I am going above and beyond because my wedding is in May. What do you girls think is a good gift-money wise. Especially those girls who have booked at John Anthonys-thanks!

hmmm...
if it is a christening, I would give a savings bond $50-$100 depending on who it is.. close family/friend..

I don't normally give a gift for a christening based on where it is, but then again I've never been to a christening in a place like JA's.
Usually they are in places like restaurants, etc.

Anyway, I normally give a bond that will mature to $100 or so, depending on how close I am to the family. And a nice sized plush toy to the child to play with now. Or maybe you can get the baby (if it's a girl) a cross on a chain?

How much do you think it is pp for a christening at JA's? I would find out and go along those guidelines as far as price-wise of the gift.

I would spend $100 on one of those new bonds that mature earlier

I agree with the other girls. $100, and I would throw in a precious moments figurine or cross for a nice touch. They have a whole collection of Christening gifts. I just recently went to a Christening and the norm was $50-$100.

Now is this $50-100 (depending to who), but is this per person or per couple?

I wouldn't do the cross without checking with the family first though. In my family it is traditioj for the godparents purchase the cross and get it blessed..JMO though....

I am the god mother and my nephews christening is in three weeks, I am going to give 400 or 500, not sure yet, I asked my sis if she would prefer cash or savings bond, etc..Ive decided to give her cash because they are setting up an account for him and this way she can use my money howvere she pleases, if she wants to buy the bond, she can do that, if she wants it in sime type of invsetment, she can do that too. I thought of the rattle from Tiffanys and her reaction was..it just sits there, the baby wont play with it, why spend all the money on that? She is very practical and after I thought about it, I think shes right, Ill give the cash and thenI found a nice blanket for the baby that has a baptism date personalized so I may give that as well. Give what you can..dont stress about it! But for a regular christening, I would probably give no more than ahundred, that seems about average. If they are really religous, I have seen people give nice christian jewlery, nightlights, etc along with some cash.

just thought too..thet price at John Anthony;s for a wedidng most likely is not the same as they would have for a non wedding party. I know this from looking at places for a potential surprise party for dh, they jack up the price if its a wedding, if its a private party for a non wedding, its usually cheaper. I may be wrong about John Anthony;s, but it is something to consider, especially is the christening is on a sunday, it should be even less expensive per person.

You usually give a bond or a bond and a small gift. It depends on who it is to decide how much.
