So I am starting to get the texts from my FH's friends asking me if the '1 Seat Reserved' on the RSVP card means that they can't bring a guest. I only put '2 Seats Reserved' if I know that they are engaged or in a serious relationship. My response is 'Sorry we are over capacity, if we start getting any No responses then you can bring a guest'.
Like my FH says, they're not going to try and get laid on our dime hahaha.

I feel everyone over a certain age (not sure what that is) should be able to bring a date. I got invited to a wedding without a date once when i started dating my fiance b/c we were not engaged I wasn't invited with him. It was the absolute most MISERABLE wedding I have ever been to.
Unfortunately some people are not able to accommodate inviting everyone on their lists with guests. I know we weren't. It is very tough when you are paying for your own wedding to spend hundreds and thousands even, extra on people you'll likely never see again.
I get what you're saying but I feel like these are one of those things that people will remember. I will always remember that wedding that I wasn't invited to with a date. The thing that will stay with me is not how good the food or music was but that someone i love was not there by my side.

Yup.... This was a fun one. i had my cousins daughter defined me and block us on fb bc she wasn't invited with her bf... and it was a space issue, we assumed she would be adult enough to ask and we'd tell her yes if we got enough no's. Ppl are ridiculous!

This! My FH and I are paying for our entire wedding and our guest list is already at 215. Imagine that doubled! For all adults, we added a guest. But, for all our friends that we know are not in a serious relationship with someone or even dating someone, we are not going to come out of pocket just because. At $100+ a plate, it adds up. And, my FH and I grew up in the same town and have the same large group of friends so all of our guests all know eachother very well.

This is exactly how I feel and why I refuse to invite anyone over a certain age WITHOUT dates...

I agree with this. For our wedding we invited all single adults with a plus one. Most of our guests who were not in a relationship came alone anyway, but I woudn't feel right not giving them the option.
I also agree. I feel that it is rude to invite an adult without a guest.

Like I said, all adults were invited with guests. This was more about our single friends that are not in a serious relationship or even dating someone.

It's a tough call, especially when you are paying for your own wedding. I've been on the receiving end of a solo invite when - literally - all of my friends were invited with their boyfriends, fiancés, etc. It was a horrible wedding for me. Because of that experience, FH and I decided that everyone would be invited with a guest...that may have meant cutting some borderline people in order to accommodate guests, but that is what felt right to us. Do what feels right to you!

So its 6 of one half a dozen of the other
you dont invite people you know and they get upset, or you invite someone sngle to accomodate all the people you do know and that single gets upset.
So who wins?? personally i would rather have people i know at my wedding, especially since 99% of them all know each other, and when there are a lot of single people it wont be as bad. its not like everyone is coupled up and i only have one or two singles

It's not always that easy of math (So its 6 of one half a dozen of the other).
For example, I have 12 close girlfriends from college. 10 out of the 12 are married, engaged, or live with boyfriends. Two are single. We invited those two with guests...why single them out? When I was in that EXACT situation, I felt horrible.

Re: What Do You Mean '1 Only'
yeah i think it depends on the situation of the guests. I'm the only single person left of my friends and my friends have all been married for years. I had always been invited with a date except for one time, so i was miserable b/c i was the only person there (literally!) without a date. Had all my friends been there single as well, it wouldn't have been as bad.
Even still though, I have a hard time telling a late 20-something or 30-something they can't bring a date b/c they are single.

i wasnt using exact math, its an expression.
and like i said its different if its one or two single people, yes then do +1 for them of course! but when you have 20 single friends with +1s those numebrs add up. I would rather have 10 couples that I am friends with then 20 extra people I dont know.

It's your wedding. , it's what YOU want, people have to suck it up and deal. It's one day, your day! Just my opinion :)

I agree....I knew who to invite with a guest and and who not to invite with a guest. If they don't like it, they don't have to come! The day is about me and my fiance, not about them and how miserable they would be because they wouldn't know how to have fun without having a date with them! And as I mentioned, our friends all know eachother very well so there should be no problems as far as anyone feeling uncomfortable because they do not know anyone else. JMO!
