So I am starting to get the texts from my FH's friends asking me if the '1 Seat Reserved' on the RSVP card means that they can't bring a guest. I only put '2 Seats Reserved' if I know that they are engaged or in a serious relationship. My response is 'Sorry we are over capacity, if we start getting any No responses then you can bring a guest'.
Like my FH says, they're not going to try and get laid on our dime hahaha.

Re: What Do You Mean '1 Only'
i didnt even say that, you are being nice lol. the way i see it is, if you start telling some people that they can bring a guest then others will wonder why they cant.....i stuck to my guns on this one. no spouse, fiance or live-in partner....no date.

I feel everyone over a certain age (not sure what that is) should be able to bring a date. I got invited to a wedding without a date once when i started dating my fiance b/c we were not engaged I wasn't invited with him. It was the absolute most MISERABLE wedding I have ever been to.

Re: What Do You Mean '1 Only'
This was quite an issue for me. My mom made me put and guest for a cousin of mine who has a girlfriend but his mom didn't even know her last name (obviously not a serious relationship) and my brother is not dating anyone and again my mom made me put and guest. I tried to stick to the rule for all friends that if they are not engaged/in a long relationship/or living together-no guest. Sorry but I'm not about to pay $150 for someone I don't even know to attend my wedding. I don't think I will be as nice if anyone questions me.

Re: What Do You Mean '1 Only'
But you have to keep in mind that it is THE BRIDE AND GROOM's day...not your guests. If you dont think you can have a good time without a date, then you have the option not to go. My fiance and I are both 30 years old, we have large families and groups of friends, many of whom are already married, so that doubles your numbers right there. Then to allow every other single person to bring someone is just doubling your numbers even more...and inviting people that you dont even know to your wedding.
My fiance was in a wedding when we already lived together but when the invites went out they did not know we were dating yet...so I wasnt invited. They didnt know me yet, so how can you blame them?
I guess it all depends on the number of peope you have at the wedding and your budget but to just invite everyone with a guest so they arent 'miserable' is crazy. If you cant have a good time because your sig. other isnt at your side, I probably dont want you at my wedding anyway. LOL

Re: What Do You Mean '1 Only'
FH was 28 when we started dating was invited to a good friends wedding without a date. They had a 6 month rule and even though our 6 month was on their wedding day they didn't budge. I didn't care, FH refused to go. We are inviting everyone with a guest except 4 of our cousins who will be seniors/college, but there's enough family they know people Many people may choose not to bring a date anyway, which is fine. And as far as the 'I'm paying for them' feelings, I don't know anyone who wouldn't double their check amount if they bring someone. From the people I know, everyone gives at least plate cost but usually more

Re: What Do You Mean '1 Only'
the only people i gave 'and guest' to were the 3 or 4 people that dont really know anyeone else at the wedding. My work friends are only getting +1 if they are married, bc they all know each other.
I had the same issue with FMIL wanting to invite 3rd cousins from california... im sorry ive been around 10 years and never met these people, they dont need to come to my wedding! (beside the fact that your a$$ isnt paying for any of it)
if i am paying for someone to come, its going to be people i know and love. instead of having 20 +1s at my wedding that i dont know, i would rather have 20 good friends who were on my B list.

THIS! FH and I dated 4 years before being engaged! Not only that, you just feel more comfy with someone there. With that being said, I wouldn't invite JUST anyone on the street. I did go solo to a close cousin's wedding that I was in. I guess it's a hard call bc everyone doesn't always do the right thing!

I agree with this. For our wedding we invited all single adults with a plus one. Most of our guests who were not in a relationship came alone anyway, but I woudn't feel right not giving them the option.

Unfortunately some people are not able to accommodate inviting everyone on their lists with guests. I know we weren't. It is very tough when you are paying for your own wedding to spend hundreds and thousands even, extra on people you'll likely never see again.

This is a hard topic. You don't want to offend anyone but you also don't want to hurt your wallet and have a room full of people you don't know!Follow your heart on this one!
