As we're planning maybe this will put things in perspective. What things do you really notice at a wedding and what really doesn't catch your attention?
Things I notice
The food - quality, amount, if there's a veggie option Viennese and Cocktail Hours The service from waitstaff good.bad, etc If the Band or DJ was good or bad How beautiful the bride looks (She's always gorgeous!) The fit of gowns and tuxes (I'm particular about that kind of stuff) OOT bags and what they contain Programs Centerpieces (not bo-ks though) The formality of the invitation and STD
Things I don't notice at all:
window treatments, carpeting, linens whether or not the BMs are all wearing the same shoes, necklace, earrings, whatever whether or not the favor matches the 'theme' It also takes me awhile to even notice if there is no favor The cake. I think they're so pretty, but to ask me a month later what the cake looked like, I'd have NO idea
HTH!

Re: What do you notice at a wedding?
I notice:
the groom's look on his face when he see's the bride for the first time
all aspects of the bride and how she looks (it's actually my favorite part)
flowers/centerpieces
programs
whether or not the music is good and everyone is dancing
the amount of food at cocktail hour (my second favorite part)
service
I do not notice:
Invites (only if they are very different)
BM's shoes

Re: What do you notice at a wedding?
Overall feel or vibe of the reception site.
Presentation and taste of food.
Attitudes of waitstaff/bartenders.
Centerpieces and other decorations.
Photographers - only if I'm IN the wedding party.
DJ - too loud and annoying or fun party guy.
BM dresses but not the tuxes.
And of course, the Bride and Groom!
I don't notice tuxes, window treatments, carpeting (unless it's a place I'm considering getting married...weird!).

Re: What do you notice at a wedding?
I started watching thoses wedding stories on TLC. I always try to find the cake and check out the flowers. I've never been to a wedding, but I love to watch thoses shows. I know its bad but I rather just by pass the love stories and go right to the weddings.

I notice the bride's dress, the bridesmaids dresses, the flowers, the food and the music.
I have been to over 20 weddings in the past two years, and I can't remember what a single cake looked like!

That's my favorite part!!!
Other than that, I only notice the coctail hour. That's usually the only part I am sober for...

I always turn around to see his face when the church doors open with the bride standing there. If the groom starts crying, I lose it!

I once went to a wedding where the waitstaff carried flaming poultry in on a skewer and paraded it around the dance floor before serving it. Will I notice that? Of course. Could I have given two poops and complained if it wasn't there? No.
parading flaming poultry - haha. I don't know about you, but that made me 'laugh out loud'.
hmmm.... flaming poultry - good name for a band.

The grooms face is so great. One of the best parts of being a BM in my brothers' weddings was that I had the greatest views of their faces when my SILs walked down the aisle. I felt like I was the only person in the room on both occasions watching the boys when the bride appeared, but, no offense to my SILs, but my baby brothers' faces we more important to me at that one moment!

Re: What do you notice at a wedding?
Holy moly, where do I begin?
Well, the first thing I notice now is if the dance floor is raised. At one wedding the DJ told us all to back up on the Tarentela (SP?) and I went right off the dance floor, between the dance floor and railing and landed on my a** on the ground. (I was the DD that night, so no drinking) Why the railing was so far from the dance floor, I will never know. The people around me pulled me back up under the railing and I kept on dancing.

Re: What do you notice at a wedding?
I notice: --The look on the grooms face when he sees the bride for the first time. (That's on my shot list for the photogs) --If the dad (or whomever is walking the bride down the aisle) is crying, then I lose it, whether I know them or not --If the MOH is not doing her job of helping the bride's dress and veil not look stupid.******* --How big the dance floor is and if people are using it --Vienesse hour --How happy the staff are (I've waitressed/bartended as a second job for over 10 years) --How good the DJ is at getting the party going and keeping it going __________________________________ I don't notice:
--The cake --The invitations and placecards --What the BM are wearing on their feet and necks --Centerpieces --Slipper baskets and bathroom baskets. I come prepared. --What MOB or MOG are wearing
I only notice the favors because I'm trying to figure out where to put the darn thing when I get home. And when it's not personalized I have no idea where it came from within a year anyway.
