what do you say when you call florists photographers and djs? do you just ask to make appointments to meet them or do you get quotes over the phone??

i usually just ask for a general price quote, then based on the attitude i get from them i determine if i want to use them or not, and if i like the answer i get i will make an appointment....Its a stupid way of figuring out if you should use them but I feel if they can get super nasty and obnoxious with me on the phone how will they be when i am booked with them...

I agree 100% best way to go. Make yourself a check list of questions you want to ask each vendor. everytime you call fill in the answer compare them all and then decide which ones you like to go a physically check out. Once you go there and check out places do the same thing again and do process of olimination.

You should see the check lists ive made. I include...
-Price
- Exactly what it includes
- customer service
- what i like most about the place
- appearance
- attitude
-work
- reputation
and then process of olimination. I have many more catagories i dont want to bore you just write down what you want to know and what they tell you and decide!

I just tell them I'm getting married in 2010 (pause)- they tell me something along the lines or it being too early- I hang up and forget that vendor.
If not, I try to make an appointment to meet with them.

I just ask to make an appointment to discuss my upcoming wedding

Re: what do you say?

i only asked for price quotes over the phone for the RH's.

the other vendors i called up and said 'hi i would like to set up an appointment to meet with you' then they would ask a bunch of questions...date of wedding...how'd we hear about them...name address yada yada'

some vendors i met with had prices on their websites..others i heard were reasonable through here. i find it easier to bargain prices in person then over the phone so if they tell you a quote you dont like on the phone you may dismiss them where in person you would have gotten a totally different quote.

For photograhers I emailed for price quotes than based on that I made my appts. the djs i am finding a harder time getting quotes through email

Re: what do you say?

I make a lot of my appointments at vendor showcases.

- The guy that answered his cell phone while showing me his DJ packages? That appointment got canceled.

- If I tell you I'm getting married in 2010 and you ROLL. YOU/R. EYES. There's 3,000.00 of my money you'll never see.

- If I make an appointment over the phone you'd better be damn well as nice as can be to me... we're only on the phone for 5 minutes.. .give me some courtesy.

I don't ask for prices over the phone, I'd much rather get them in person... that way I have more bargaining power.
