Do dresses with detailing on the bottom of the skirt make short girls look even shorter or just in general makes girls look shorter? I never really considered this but the lady told me this while trying on a dress and so did my MOH.
What do you think?

Re: What do you think...?
i think that detailing is fine. dont forget the dress is alterted to fit your body type. so the detailing on a dress for someone who is 5'9 would come up higher than someone who is 5'0. does that make sense?

I have never heard of this and I think if you love the dress then get it. You will be in heels, so I don't understand how detailing would make you look smaller.

I have detailing like that on the bottom of my dress and I didn't think I looked any shorter. I am only 5'3. My dress is in my album.

Re: What do you think...?
I think it all depends on the dress....you can't just rule it out because of certain things you've been told. i say, try it on and if you don't like it cos' it makes you look shorter then take it off and go the next one. i haven't really heard of detailing on dresses making you look shorter

NO!!!!!!!!!!
I'm 4'11' and my dress has a TON of detailing....especially on the bottom! They should measure you 'hollow to hem' so that when the designer cuts the gown, it is cut to your height and then everything is done proportionately.
Again, I'm only 4'11' and I'll be wearing 3' heels making me a whole 5'2'! Here's my gown:

I don't think so, my dress has detailing on the bottom and I didn't feel like it made me look shorter

Re: What do you think...?
It depends on the dress. I ultimately bought a dress that's A-line with alencon lace from the top to the waist and the skirt is plain. I tried on a nearly identical dress that ALSO had alencon lace designs on the bottom of the dress. For some reason (maybe b/c I'm only 5'2' or maybe it's because I'm more of a plain person), the details on the bottom just took away from the beautiful simplicity of the dress, and did make me look a little shorter! It was almost like too much design for so little a dress! I think you need to try it on; each dress looks different and each girl can carry off different things!

Re: What do you think...?
Try on both style dresses and see how you look in both. I do agree some dresses are too big for short people. (Which is why I will be wearing 4 in heels).
I would trust the professionals, since they do this for a living, but i really think it depends on the cut and shape of the dress too, not just detailing.
