Other than the first dance I don't want to get up on that dance floor again. I'm really hoping that I am so busy with other things that I won't have to dance at my own wedding. I hate dancing. I have extreme anxiety about the situation and I want to avoid it as much as possible.
I brough it up to FH last night and he told me 'you have to dance at you own wedding.'
Would it really be so bad if I just left the dance floor to our guests?

if you have a matri d you really wont have anything to do. he/she will take care of everything that day. you will have to talk to all your guests, so if u just take a lot of time doing that then maybe you will be too busy to dance. in my opinion u should have a good time at your wedding & if that means not dancing then so be it.

Re: What do you think about the bride not dancing?
My mom overheard the conversation about the not dancing and she said 'it will look like you are not having a good time and I don't know why you're having this wedding if you refuse to show your guest a good time.'
So when did me dancing mean that the guest will have a good time?
I've even begged FH for a small destination wedding but he doesn't feel it's right because that means most of our friends & family who can't afford tot travel will not be able to come.
I told him I don't care as long as its me & him and he's not exactly speaking to me right now cause I insulted our wedding plans.

i think you should dance...If i was at a wedding and the bride didnt dance I wouldnt understand why she didnt and maybe think something was wrong (she is unhappy, mad, not having fun...) If you dont feel comfy cut the dance short and invite the parents up also...You can dance with your parent and FH can too halfway through the song...That way all the attention isnt on you

I think if you would be more comfortable walking around talking to your guest, then that is what you should do, its you and your fh's day, you should do what you feel most comfortable

I have no problem doing the first dance cause it's what's expected. It's after the fact once the dance floor gets going... I don't want to dance.
I just hope because I'm not dancing doesnt mean my guest will do the same.

I do think you should definitely dance. This is your day, who cares what you look like dancing. I am not the best dancer but after a few drinks I think I am!!

It's not I'm afraid of what I will look like dancing. I just don't like to dance, I don't feel comfortable doing it. I avoid going out with my friends to bars and clubs cause I just want to avoid it.

I think it's your wedding and you shouldnt be forced to do anything you dont want to do. People will have fun regardless of what you do. To be honest...I'm not sure if I've ever paid attention to whether the bride is dancing or not. If you have a good deejay or band...they will be too wrapped up in their own fun to wonder why you arent dancing. I would just assume you are talking to people. I wouldnt stress. It's your day...do what makes you happy.
My FH probably wont dance at the wedding...he's similar to you...doesnt enjoy it...so we probably wont spend anytime with each other!! LOL That's my only concern...not spending a moment with him...but I cant force him to be uncomfortable.

Re: What do you think about the bride not dancing?
if i was a guest at a wedding i dont expect the bride to dance as much as the rest of the crowd (obviously not a general statement)........first off she's got a long fancy dress, she's usually not drinking as much, she been on her feet ALL day, she has to mingle with EVERYONE, etc. etc.
so i dont think ppl will assume ur having a bad time just because ur not dancing all night. but i have a sneaking suspicion that after a few drink u'll hit the dance floor.....your wedding is different from other weddings, bars, and clubs. it YOUR celebration and i think thatll be motivating enough for you to get out there and shake it.

I'd rather spend that time talking to people in my family I haven't seen in a while or rarely see. I don't want to rush my way around table to table cause 'it's time to dance'.
I'd say maybe after a few drinks I might losen up and forget about my anxiety but I can't really hold much liquor in my anymore without it making me uber tired.
I had one drink the other night and it literally made me go to sleep.

I totally understand your anxiety. Do you feel more comfortable slow dancing with FH? Maybe you can do most of the slow dances and while the faster ones are playing you can make your table rounds and socialize. Think as long as you are seen laughing and talking to people no one could think you are not having a good time.
It's your day, and if dancing does not make you happy than why do it? You have to be comfortable.

I agree, most people are looking to see if you are happy and have fun and if that's talking so be it. I have family members who loves to talk and would love it if the bride sat down with them. That will make your wedding even more special because you are giving your time to them. I say talk to everyone it your day and do what makes you happy.

I agree. You should do what makes you feel comfortable and what you want to enjoy your wedding day. Not everyone likes doing the same things, so you shouldn't feel pressured to be a dancing bride. If you don't like doing it, don't. I'm sure you can think of things you'd rather do instead.
