What do you think about this??

What do you think about this??

I really wanted to do votive placecards but here is my dilemma...

when you walk into my hall- guests pick up the placecards in the hallway and then go through the doors into the cocktail hour.

from there- on the other side of the room, they go into the ballroom....

if we did the votive placeards, the guests would have to go back out of the cocktail room into the hall, back into the cocktail hour room to get into the ballroom... does that make sense to you...

anyway- i am afraid it will be too crowded going to get the placecards all at once- and that the guests will have to go back and forth.

Should I just forget about it and do picture frame placecards?

They were just so pretty and different....

Please tell me what you think

the votive place cards sound lovely and no it isnt too complicated to go back and forth - anyway most folks will probably pick them up and carry them into the cocktail hour

the thing is that they are not supposed to carry them into the cocktail hour- they are supposed to be lit towards the end of the cocktail hour and then the guests pick them up- from what i was told.

Thats just so they are not too hot when your guests first pick them up. As long as you get the thicker votive candles ( like the ones I used) I don't think you have to worry AT ALL about it getting hot at all

I have my heart set on doing the votive placecards also, but I would be facing the same dilemma (although, I haven't thought about it yet).
I don't think it's a problem for guests to go back out to get the votives.
Is it possible to have a table with the votives set up somewhere in between the cocktail hour room and the ballroom? or have the table when you first walk into the ballroom?

I understand what ur saying with the cocktail hour situation....there isnt any way they can put a table near the middle of both rooms?

I Know how you feel... At the Riviera, you walk through the reception area to go to the cocktail area, so I'm assumung they have to Pick up there votives before the cocktail hour!!!! So much to think about.. Maybe it's just another job for my DOC to deal with!!!!!

i did a large, poster sized seating chart in the entry with a large arrangement and ordered with matching tables numbers (matched the chart) and votive placecards already at the tables lit...worked out really well, except the seating chart company got the wrong day and YEAR of my wedding---i only noticed it afterward and they never apologized or offered some sort of compensation (but it didn't effect anything except the look of the chart.) you could stick a chart where people are coming in.

I'm doing the votive placecards at Carlyle and we are even having our ceremony there, which makes the whole issue even more complicated. I may ask to have them put somewhere else...maybe in the cocktail hour room on the piano??? Even if they have to be the foyer, I am doing it. It just looks so nice and is such a unique touch!

Thanks Jodi!

You will have to let me know how you wind up displaying them. The piano would be nice.... although I was also thinking about having them set up a table in the corner of the ballroom that they can move out once placecards are picked up.

Is it really that bad if they have to go back out of the cocktail hour room- I just dont want it too crowded there- I also dont want those tables where they normally go empty- and i dont want to do more flowers than I already am!

How were they about it when you mentioned it to them at the menu planning?

Re: What do you think about this??

I basically just told Sue I was doing votive placecards. I could see on her face that she wanted to warn me about how it could be complicated, but I was so sure when I said it, she just 'ok'.
I definitely don't want to be getting any more flowers for those tables. I will have to think about it. When I went fo my menu selection, I wasn't able to look around because another event was going on. Hopefully, at our next meeting, I can...otherwise, I will schedule another date to figure it out.
