I think it is true. You can't marry someone and exclude yourself from his/her family.

I definitely think it's true. Regardless of whether or not you're close with FH's family, by marrying him, they become your family too. And vice versa. I treat FSIL and FBIL like my own siblings, and FH does the same. I call FH's aunts and uncles 'aunt soandso' and 'uncle soandso.' Remember, your FH is who he is because of his family....good or bad. And as much as we don't want to deal with their families sometimes, they become our families the minute we take those vows (or sometimes sooner).

I hate to be the negative one but i dont think i am marrying his family. I fell in love with HIM and the person HE is and if i dont get along with his family (which isnt the case) I dont have to deal with them. You can make the choice to stay away from family events and not go to their home. Although it would be difficult on him it is a choice you can make.

Well, first I think it really depends on the person you are marrying and what relationship they have with their family and I think it also depends what their view is on the subject because that will be a big factor to determine what they feel the ideal relationship for you to have with their fam is.
Personally, I do agree that you are not only making ties with your new husband or wife but their family as well but to take it a further step to what one thinks of as 'marriage', no I dont really think so. You are making vows to your new husband or wife and you have chosen that person to spend your life with and work through all the things that come along with marriage which can be challenging enough so no i dont think you have 'married' the family and although its expected out of respect to your new fh/fw that you will try to work things out and get along with the fam, say in difficult times, you have not made the same committment to them and shouldnt have to live up to the same standard with the family.
