I'm in queens and don't know much about long island. We were looking at some houses in this area and we wanted to know a little more about the neighborhood...thanks!

I agree.
The parts closest to Rockville Center are pretty good. I don't know but I think Eagle Ave area isn't that bad either. You really have to go and check it out. I don't think the schools are that great though. But I could be wrong.

Re: What do you think about West Hempstead??
I've lived in West Hempstead all my life and it's not that bad. Like every town, it has it's good parts and bad parts. My parents live off of Eagle Ave. close to Halls Pond and I live over the tracks in an apartment complex only 5 minutes away. There is a major difference. Many people confuse Hempstead with West Hempstead...that is an insult for a West Hempstead person. IF you were to move anywhere in West Hempstead, I'd say go BEHIND the High School on Nassau Blvd. There are so many cute houses there and the area is still 'safe'. Good luck.

I also grew up in West Hempstead and I agree- there are good and not so good parts. I gre up behind Echo Park and my family still lives over there. There are some really nice areas near the church also...

Re: What do you think about West Hempstead??
My cousin and her husband just bought a house there in August, she is on a lovely, quiet block. The people they bought from only moved a few blocks away.
