If you are not getting married on a holiday weekend or having a destination wedding, how important is it to send out STD's? Up until a few years ago, this wasn't the thing to do. It almost seems like a silly waste of money unless you really need people to make arrangments for that date. I am thinking I could put that money towards something more useful.
That do you all think?

I made them my self and it cost me only like i think $50 all othgther and that was with buying a new ink cart. (my first one wasnt full) ... the reason i did it was i have a lot of out of town guests and my wedding is on sunday night so i gave everyone plenty of notice so there were no excuses on why they coulndt attend ... if oyu dont think you will have to worry about any of this then i say dont do i t...

All of FH's family is from out of town... upstate NY, so we're sending STD to his family only (and the few people in my family who are out of state as well).
ETA: We're doing this mostly so that they can make the necessary accomodations now instead of a month or two prior when they get the invitation.

That it what I was wondering--If I don't have to spend the $$, then I will put it towards something else. I was thinking that as long as my close family and friends know the date, then that is all that I care about

I am wonderfing about this myself. I was going to do them, then I wasn't, and now I am thinking about it again. Everyone we are inviting already knows we are getting married, so it really doesn't matter. Not everyone has the date, though. I asked a friend to make them for me recently. I might tell her to forget about it.
I can't decide!

I think that it all depends.. I have bunch of out of state people comming so in my case I wanted to send them out just so people good book flights and reserve time in advance. Plus my wedding is the Saturday after Labor Day and I dont want my guest taking a lot of vacation that weekend and not being able to come to our wedding.. hmm that sounds a little selfish now that i think about it

i say don't bother. i think they are useful for out of towners, holiday weekends, and destination weddings like you said. we didn't send any and besides, all the really important people know when our wedding is and don't need reminders.

I don't think it's that important at all... if you don't feel the need to send them, don't send them. Like you said, the trend only started a few years ago... and I'm sure all of the weddings that took place before that worked out just fine!
I sent STDs, only because I wanted to. And I worked hard on creating a wedding website so it was a great way to make sure people saw it. I didn't think it was necessary... I just wanted to do it. HTH!

Its not that important to send them out if you are not getting married on holiday or destination etc. But I think its a nice touch to have/do. Its just about personal preference if you want them or not

We are not doing professional save the dates.... I had some extra e-party invites that i cut the car, so now one side has our picture, and on the other side i will print my own little 'Save the Date' and just have it scattered on the tables.... so if people want them than fine and if not... oh well.... we have no real OOT, so everyone basically knows the date by word of mouth.....

Re: what do you think... How important is it?
we only spent $22 on the STDs themselves plus postage which was a regular stamp.
It's really not important to do at all. We did it b/c it's a Friday and it's during some school districts' week long breaks so we wanted to make sure people had enough time to make plans.
if you want them, you can do them cheap enough, if you don't want them, don't 'waste' your money

Re: what do you think... How important is it?
We arent getting married on a holiday weekend BUT it is the weekend after thanksgiving and its a few weekends before Christmas - which for some people can be very hectic. So I think that I would like to send them out so people are aware that we are getting married around the holidays. Also we are getting married about 40 minutes away from where most of our guests live - I'm not sure if the RH info goes on the STD but I want people to know that it is far and that we are blocking hotel rooms.

Vistaprint... it was $22 for 100 of them. if you only need a handful for out of town guests you can get them for free!

I am sending them out, but only because my wedding is on a Sunday evening and we have a lot of out-of-towners. Other than an special circumstance, I don't think you need them at all!
