3-5% sounds right...but if you are underpaid...i think you could ask for a larger amount to make up the difference...

Re: What % do you think is a fair raise?
I know that I usually get 10 - 15%, but this is unheard of from others i ahve spoken to.
I hear the norm is 3-5% as well.
My friend got a 4% raise, and complained since her pay scale was so low to being with, and they gave her an increase in her base salary also.

For the 2 years that I have been with my company...we are lucky if we get 2.5%. But...I guess I won't complain...because I could get 0%!

This year and last year I got around a 12% raise, but I was underpaid. Now I make a decent salary.

As long as your raise reflects the standard cost of living increase it's fair which is usually 3 - 5%.

Re: What % do you think is a fair raise?
Well that is why some people leave their jobs for a new one then. I think I make as much as my sister, and she's been at her job for about 8 years, and me for 3 years. But her job is more flexible with her for things, so she's fine with it. If you're not happy with your salary and that you haven't gotten a raise, you have to look for another job and demand somewhat more than you're making now.
I don't think I'll get the same percentage raise next year because I don't think it's the norm.

I have had my salary 'adjusted' like this a couple of times in the past 10 years at my company (gulp).
Our standard raise is about 5% but is flexible for lower salaried employees and high performance (production/sales people in my office).
DH works for a municipality and his raise is 3-4% per year based on a negotiated 3 year contract.

I would love to leave my job- I have been looking for a new job for 1 1/2 years right now- I am under-employed and am making 1/3rd what I used to make when I got laid off in 1/02

Well....for me, I think a 75% would be fair! However, our company is giving out 3% as the standard.

Re: What % do you think is a fair raise?
It depends on how much you make vs. how much the market will pay.
If you make 10K/year but no other company will pay you more, no raise is fair.
If you make 200K but every other company will pay you 225K, then a 5-10% raise is fair.

Re: What % do you think is a fair raise?
At my old company, I was getting 10-12% a year. Then when the company started to managing expenses and cut costs, I got a 3% raise last year.
When my manager at the time was telling me about the 3% raise, he could tell I was disappointed. He says if it makes you feel better, I didn't get a raise this year (Senior VP didn't get raises for 2 yrs). NOT!! You make well over 150K, so excuse me if I don't feel sorry for you.
Totally depends on the economy and company performance.

Re: What % do you think is a fair raise?
My company's raises are also in the 3-4% average range...however, I do not think that is fair...and my boss told me the other day that I may be getting a 6% raise.
I say this is not fair only because I have a few co-workers who are paid more than I am...
