what do you think is the best type of flooring if you have pets?

wood, hardwood, laminate

or carpet.

in terms of durablity and cleanliness ( no smell)

I would say hardwood in all cases EXCEPT if you have a big dog. The big dogs running around tend to really damage the hardwood floors to the point where they might be too expensive to repair on a regular basis.

But in terms of cleaning up accidents and not holding odors, etc.. hardwood is the bst.

If you have a big dog, then Pergo is the way to go, no scratching

If you do have dogs, big, small,,,whatever, there are SOFTPAWS for dogs. They're like little rubber tips that get glued onto their nails, so they don't damage hardwood floors,

My husband does them all the time for his clients...our two little stinkers also wear them.
HOwever, they need new ones every so many weeks....because they grow out like acrylic nails.

i agree with everyone else. definitely stay away from carpet - it traps odors and pet hairs. no matter how often i vacuum, i feel like there is constantly cat hair on the rugs. it's yucky
