Also can we greet all our guest during the cocktail hour and skip the table to table? or is that too impersonal?

I think extending the cocktail hour is a great idea. What time would it start though?

it would go:

guest 5:30
ceremony 6:00
Cocktail hour 6:30 - 8
party 8-11:30
dessert/ after hour 11:30- 12:30

Is all that too long for people?

I would vote for no to a longer cocktail hour. It's not a terrible idea, but there's not always enough room for everyone to sit in there so it may be uncomfortable for some. I think people would be eager to find their spot and put all their stuff down and getting the party started! Plus they are going to keep eating and not eat the actual dinner and other goodies!

I would also worry about it all running too late for some of the guests.

Personally, I love the cocktail hour. It is relaxing and fun and a good time to really mingle. In the end, it's only a half hour added onto the entire party, and if people are really tired, they can leave during the dessert hour! Besides, I always felt that weddings go by so quickly...I always want more!

I love extended cocktail hours. It is where the best food and drinks are and people are free to roam around.

Also, I think you can greet all of the guests during the cocktail hour. It's exciting that way because you are so freshly married.

I am having an extended cocktail hour, 6:30 - 8:00 reception 8:00 - 1:00am. I am also having a chocolate fountain/ice cream sundae bar, prob around 10:30/11, have to figure out the time cuz i don't want it too late. If people feel it's too long they can leave... i know i won't want the night to end and my friends will party as long as we let them. I think the cocktail hour one of the best parts of the night and it always goes by to fast. by the time everyone gets there and settled they definitely don't have an hour anyway. If you want it, go for it!

My cocktail hour is from 6-7, but from what I read on the Brides review about my RH is that they open the CH a half an hour early bec guests have arrived early, so maybe my guests will arrive early and the CH will start from 5:30-7:00 which is great, everyone wants to dig in to all that food, lol

my cocktail hour starts at 630 and ends at 8 as well... personally i think its a great idea... there is definitely enough room in my hall for everyone to sit comfortably and what a great opportunity to mingle with your guests. Personally im shelling out a lotta money for this wedding and i want it to be as long as possible lol

I usually enjoy the CH food more than the reception. It's also the easiest time IMO for mingling and being able to just talk. My CH is an hour and a half and it was just included.

I think no one will eat dinner! We're having so much food at ours I think an hour is a good idea. OTOH, if you're going to take pictures then, you might be able to enjoy some of it if it's longer.

I love the longer cocktail hour idea BUT! I would just make sure that there is ample seating, because I have been to several weddings where the cocktail hour had little or no seating and people get tired of trying to talk, eat and juggle plates, purses, etc at the same time. Also keep in mind, if there are older folks at your wedding, they will definetly need a place to take a load off.

If your going to add time, why not to the reception or a vienesse hour. I think it's too much time for a CH hour to be walking around and mingling...

I think that is a great idea! The CH has the best food.
