what do you think of an hour and a half cocktail hour?

Is it too long?

I need opinions quickly please.
Thanks ladies

Also can we greet all our guest during the cocktail hour and skip the table to table? or is that too impersonal?

Personally, I think its too long. I've been to weddings that have done that and people end up just standing around like, okay next! If you are going to add more time to your wedding, I would do it to the party. JMO

My friend that just got married had an hour and a half cocktail hour. I personally thought it was WAY too long. She didn't have enough food at the cocktail hour to justify having it that long. If you have enough food I think it might be ok. It just felt too long to me.

I think it depends on your guests, what time your wedding is, and how much food, etc. I think it will have a tendency to feel really long and drag for your guests.

I also do not think there is ANY substitution for going around from table to table. Sorry. I think you really should go to every table that night. (Hey, you'll probably get handed lots of cards this way, too!)

I don't think greeting guests at the CH substitutes, though it'll probably lessen the amount of time you need to spend at each table.

We'll have a receiving line at the church and we'll also probably be at our CH -- but we won't skip going table to table.

I definately agree. Thats way too long for a cocktail hour. The problem is, a lot of times people end up standing around waiting for the reception to begin. If you're going to add time, add it to the reception -- people are always sad when the dancing ends.

I'm having an hour & a half cocktail hour...I think it'll give us enough time to take pictures and still enjoy it.

i think it would be fine for a large wedding because people end up having to wait on line for the food anyway. for a smaller wedding, it may be too long for people to wait.

I love the idea! I think that some of the best food is at the cocktail hour and I would have loved to enjoy it more...have more time to mingle without feeling like I had other things to do, or wanting to dance... I wish we would have/could have extended the cocktail hour

My cocktail hour is an hour and a half. I am getting married at 5pm, cocktail 5:30-7 reception 7-11. That way FH and I have time for photos, and we still get to mingle with guests for about a 1/2 hour so we won't have to eat up so much reception time going from table to table. We are only having 120 guests.

We are having an hour and a half cocktail hour. There is so much food that we need the extra time.
