New York State is instating a mandatory new license plate statewide called the “Empire Gold.” It will be required on all cars starting April of next year and will cost between 25-50 dollars for cars depending on the status of its registration.
i have seen a ton of those in the past 2 days - at first i thought people were busting out old expired license plates from the 80s!

I have no opinion. Its a license plate- who cares? People are acting like they have to wear it or something

I read that originally that wanted to make it mandatory to get the new plate, but thankfully they changed their minds about that. Otherwise we would have had to pay for a new plate and then pay extra if you wanted to keep your plate #'s.

Re: What do you think of the new....
I remember when AAA posted a news article about it and asking for opinions..Everyone hated it - there was an article on Gawker about it, and how Gov. Patterson basically rammed the new license fees and design past the legislature - no one likes this new design but the 'higher powers that be' somehow let this become the new law..
needless to say, I HATE the color and the design. It reminds me of license plates from the 1950s...Yuck. Instead of progressing, NY just loves to regress!
