What would you think about getting these as favors? It would be one ornament in a pouch per person. Also in the pouch would be info about the fair trade artisans that made them. The big thing I like about going 'fair trade' with the favors is that most of the $$ paid goes right to the person who made them. These are people, mostly women, of very little means who are using skills to earn money to provide for their children.
Here is a link with info on what fair trade is... Link
I also love the idea, but Id probably just use the pouch if anything.

There cute, but I think they would be better if your wedding was around Xmas.

I love the concept
but I doubt I would use the favor- sorry
I know...I'm still looking for something that would actually be useful AND not break the bank. I can get the combo above for like $2.50 each...

I love the concept of fair trade...but I'm not crazy about the favor or giving ornaments for a 'fall' wedding. Sorry!

Can't you get those wine stoppers or measuring spoons for about that much? I think those are cute AND useful.

I know but I thought these would be more meaningful b/c they are not sweat shop made... You know, elementary school age kids with their nimble little fingers slaving away instead of learning with most of the profits going to 'the man...'

I like the idea, it's a lil early for the holidays but I'd save it for a few months and put it on my Christmas tree. Then store it away til next year.

Re: What do you think of these as favors...
I think those are really pretty. I would hang it in a window (from the lock) to catch the light.
The fair trade bit is really great, too. Thanks for the info.
ETA: My taste may be different than a lot of other people's, but I would chuck a wine stopper (I wouldn't use it - I always finish the bottle! ha ha, or I have a vacuum sealer) or some of the more 'traditional favors'. Not my style. I like this because it is pretty. I also like the fair trade 'story' behind it (but, then again, my dad calls me a bleeding heart liberal lefist pinko commie feminin*zi)

why not just do a donation?
Someone from the not-for profit world should pipe in here if I'm totally off base but...
It seems to me that this sort of charity is more sustainable than a standard donation. Once the money is sent, it is routed and administered and applied where the folks that run the charity think it will do the most good. This is GREAT, but with these type of 'fair trade' items, the people who are making and selling their crafts are working together with the NGO(non governmental organization)/charity to create a sustainable improvement in their standard of living.
In short, it seems more like teaching to fish instead of giving fish. Then again that is just my opinion...

Do you like them????? if so,,then go for it!
You seem to love the concept of how they were made and the money goes to the makers...so I feel that you should get them, plus they are very differnet and not the 'norm'
You seem like a thoughtful person...and I am sure your guests will be touched after reading the info you will be including..

I love the fair trade idea, it's a great way for your wedding to bring joy not only to you and your guests, but to someone who really needs it. I think the ornaments are really pretty and so are the bags.

I dont think money is the reason she is picking those favors...it seems the concept of who made them and who gets the money is....
