My FH is close with his cousin's cousin (so no relation). We got engaged on the same weekend. Congratulations and well wishes were passed between them. We set out wedding date as October 31st well before christmas. Today we get an e-mail that they set their date for OCTOBER 3RD, three weeks before us. Are they stealing our thunder?

If it makes you feel a little better-- we got engaged April 08' and set Sept 6, 2009 as our date. Our very close friends got engaged this New Yr's eve and set their date for August 22, 2009!!

Honestly, I don't know what to say. If I were close to someone even if I were or weren't related I think I would be upset. How long have they known your wedding date? and also, are you inviting the same people?

Re: What do you think of this?
I just think that's a popular date and if they want an September/October wedding, they might not want to wait a whole extra year.

Re: What do you think of this?
That *****! Hopefully they're not stealing your thunder, just looking for the dates their RHs are available and those were the only ones... Your weddings will be spectacular cause they're YOURS, and you should have full confidence in it!
Yea that would upset me too... I totally understand! FH and I got engaged and LITERALLY the next day his supposed best friend gets engaged with NO RING after JUST getting back with his gf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He just calls us and goes o we're engaged. I didnt get her a ring though. HUH???? UNBELIEVABLE! People are RIDICULOUS!
Listen dont let ANYONE steal your thunder. You do your thing and you have the BEST wedding you can possibly have! And dont share your ideas!!!!!! =)))

Re: What do you think of this?
IMO I think people just pick their date and not think of things going on with others. I picked mine and only worried about holidays I never said oh well so and so is also getting married....they probably just picked their date and it happened to be close to yours.

Re: What do you think of this?
hmm.. I'd secretly be a little upset, but on the flip side, they got engaged the same weekend and maybe they just don't want to wait for 2010 and perhaps didn't want to go into november or december?
could have been innocent, not realizing...

Re: What do you think of this?
while i can understand why you might feel a bit ticked at first, it is 3 weeks apart and, like when i picked my date, i didn't think about anyone but us and the day that worked for our lives and where it fell in terms of holidays... and the day we thought we'd love to celebrate the rest of our lives. i doubt they did it on purpose. my advice would just be to celebrate their day, and they'll celebrate yours in return. i'd let it go and be excited for them and keep on planning your happy day :o)

Re: What do you think of this?
I think it is fine...your wedding is your wedding and your time to shine...how many people will be at both weddings? At the end of the day the people you have come to your wedding are there b/c they care about you not for the things we take months planning and obsessing over! This topic makes me think...I have friends getting married around the same time as me...how long are couples supposed to leave between weddings?
