We spent a lot on our wedding - more than I ever thought I would. Our hall alone was over 40K and that does not count anything else. However, this was within our means and we paid for it ourselves. If someone else was paying the bill I would have had a less expensive wedding.
If you have the means and won't go into debt you should spend whatever you want to. For some people this is a lifetime dream - for others it is a chance to throw an amazing party for your family and friends (that is what it was for us). You can of course have an amazing party while sepnding much less but I work hard and so I played by my own rules. I have no regrets about the money we spent. Sure we could have used it for a house or other things but we used it for a special day for us - and, since it was ours to spend, we spent it our way. Life is very short - I try to enjoy now and be happy every day - I didn't spend my last penny on my wedding - nor would I - but I also did not listen to people who thought I was wasting hard earned money b/c hell, I earned it, not them.
Good for you!!!! See that's what I mean, everyone is different and if you've got it so spend do it...hell I wish i had it to spend to

Who can even budget anymore! Everything is so expensive BUT I think it is worth every single dollar! Our wedding is up to almost $40k and we barely started...

YOu girls are out of your mind. It is one night five hours that goes by in the blink of an eye. Do what is economical. If you care what people think you are nuts! Be classy less is more. You can have a simple wedding with good dinner and a good dj for 20,000 and less. Do not have an extravagant venetian hour most people leave before the wedding ends...just a few quick comments from someone who recently got married..
who are you to tell us what's econimical and what isn't? You don't know our income, budgets, how much family may or not be helping. If someone wants the veneitan hour and can afford it good for them. I for one have never been to a wedding where there wasn't a line out the door for the venetian table. Yes, you can have a beautiful wedding for 20,000 that doesn't mean you have to.
I will never understand why past brides like to rain on our (meaning engaged and soon- to- be brides) parade.
ITA. If you're a past bride and want to give advice, then do so. BUT it doesn't have to be done in such a rude manner. Besides, this past bride got married at Russos and I KNOW that place is not cheap. It is very pretty, but pricey. How many people did the bride have that she was able to keep it under $20k?
My thoughts exactly!

Hahaha...I was thinking the same thing! Russo's on the Bay is one of the most overpriced RH'S! She didn't keep it under $20,000 unless she had only about 30 guests! I'm sure it's just a fake bride trying to create drama!
I'm a little offended... I'm having my wedding at Russo's on the Bay- it is not overpriced- you get what you pay for. Depending on the day you choose prices vary there. Maybe for her $15 extra per person for venetian hour is a waste, but for others its necessary.

I always said before I got engagedI always said I wasn't going to go into debt over a wedding, and we didn't. We saved and saved and we didn't charge one thing. We were so happy to have no bills after the wedding. We budgets 25k and we spent 27 K.

I lost count after the RH was booked...purposely! I don't want to think about it too much, but I will tell you we are only having what we can afford, NO credit card balances!

i'm kinda in the same boat...We 'budgeted' 40K but looks like it will be about 50K including the honeymoon...although there are things I could have left out and saved money on...this is the day I wanted and the only debt I will have are the stupid credit card bills I had before my wedding plannning..almost everything is being paid out of pocket for the wedding and we are also getting help from family.
I think people can always comment on 'better ways' to spend your money but what I consider important could be a waste for someone else... For example: I know I have no business paying for a Vienesse hour when I KNOW my guests won't really appreciate it because lavish desserts is not really in our culture but for another bride that could be the main event for the whole wedding so you know what go for it!
I think its easy to running around pointing fingers when you don't know the whole situation but unless I'm walking around with a collection box begging you for money....MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!

Re: what do you think your wedding cost? ...
We're probably at around $65k not including the HM, which is sadly a bit better than we thought we'd be b/c we got a few more no's than we thought we would.
And I couldn't agree more with Kristina's post - no one should judge what someone else chooses to spend money on. To each his own!
